Steem, The Pulse of Crypto! (100 Steem Contest)

(Edited)

Today in SteemChat on Discord we were having one of our random and crazy conversations. We started out focused on #OldSteem issues.

Somewhere in the madness, we started to talk about why we are still here and what the value is. Many of us are crypto enthusiasts and we started to agree that the value for us is education and keeping in touch with Crypto and others building, trading, exchanging Crypto.

THE PULSE OF CRYPTO

Long story short whether you are a mainstream noob or a seasoned crypto expert, Steem is where these things are discussed and if you watch Steem, you can keep in touch with the Pulse of Crypto.

I think it is a great slogan, I think @Inertia said it first.

A #NewSteem slogan...

**Steem, the pulse of Crypto! ** (not earning, not your voice is worth something)

It's the place where the cool kids come to learn, discuss, promote cryptocurrency projects.

@Justineh has been talking about "The Bridge to Crypto" and I love that too.

When BTC hit's it's next all time high (ATH) there are going to be a lot of people (millions) who are interested in getting into crypto and they will be looking for an easy way to get involved. (That was me three years ago)

Let's stop talking about Steem being a place to post and earn. Let's start talking about a place to post and learn!

Steem the pulse of crypto!!

So, this post is "test marketing" for the slogan.

Here is your mission if you choose to accept it.

Create:

Steem, THE PULSE OF CRYPTO

Make a post, create a graphic, sing a song... Link it here...

One week from now I will reward my favorites!

At least 100 Steem will be given out in whatever way I see fit!

a little note: that doesn't mean all steem topics need to be crypto-related, it is ONE slogan not THE slogan.

Use this tag!

#steemthepulseofcrypto

Interesting way to advertise STEEM and earn money. Maybe we need more support for good ideas, even if they are not ours.

Good idea. Learning should be emphasized, not earning. Learning puts the emphasis on content, not the money. The money will follow the content, or at least that's the way it should be both for individuals and Steem as a whole.

It was a group effort, and I think @inertia used that line first.

A fine group then! It was you that came up with #newsteem though, wasn't it?

Great little competition. I like the slogan about posting and learning rather than posting and earning . it is really what drives my love of my own tribe because I really believe it is about the sharing of wisdom in a space that isn't drowned out by a million zillion mummy bloggers. Whilst I don't know much about crypto I have sure learnt much more since being here! X

That's a good starting point, and having such messaging/marketing material ready for the next spike in "what is crypto" on google makes sense.

One could also sneak in that the best way to learn crypto is to own crypto. Doesn't have to be much, but buying 50-200 STEEM just to see what it is all about, and thus get a bit more hyped from actually being invested (like how people are more likely to complete an online course if they paid for it). Could be a way to capture some of that value I mentioned.

Yeah, great ideas! I love it. Own, Earn, Trade, Learn expand...

Simply putting "own" first also flips the expectations and mindset going in on its head.

"Earn by posting" = expectations of reward and dissappointment as soon as those are not met. + Naturally assuming that what you get paid is something you're supposed to sell by default. => Harms the quality of users we attract, the retention rate, and lowers the number who holds steem and sees a point in contributing.

"Be a co-owner in Steem" = You want to grow with the platform, make what you own more valuable, and act resposibly because you know you're a part of it.

More so than a rebranding, we need to put a better message in front of our product.

I think I'd like to see a steem community with this slogan. Steem leo, except even that is broader than crypto. Maybe SteemBeat, the pulse of crypto. And it could be a news source for crypto. ...and music.

If I submit an entry @whatsup into 'Steem, The Pulse of Crypto' contest and win… I'll probably just waste the bounty on self-indulgences as always, so you have my permission to donate it to a worthy cause...like the "Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Nudists' or a movement of equal importance :>)

Ohhhh...and by the way...Thank you for the 'up' up-votes from your trail/s; It's very much appreciated.

@whatsup,
We need to sing a song :O That's the hardest part, coz when I start singing everyone gets high in pulse rate! Coz it's hard to listen lol :D
Anyway I will DM you a way to contribute to this contest with $TRDO! You know the purpose of that token to build for!

Cheers~

I love the Slogan and I think it's perfect timing. As soon as some of the major exchanges upgrade their Steem wallets the price will take off and seeing Steem in the top-gainers list will help bring new and returning interest. I wrote a bit about this on my blog while buying the dip at a discount. Looking forward to the future of THE PULSE OF CRYPTO!

It seems I'm the only one here who don't like this slogan. "the pulse of Crypto!" doesn't describe Steem well. Crypto is just a small niche on Steem, and honestly, I don't come to Steem for knowing the pulse of Crypto as there are better resources available for it. Steem has much more than that, if you can open your eyes!

Comparatively, I liked what @Justineh has suggested - "The Bridge to Crypto". Like many here, STEEM was my first cryptocurrency and this was the place where I interacted over blockchain for the first time in my life. So I'd rather call it - "A Gateway to Crypto".

But it hardly matters when everyone else is loving it.

P.S.:
As a matter of fact, I didn't even like your term #newsteem which later got quite popular. This term inherently criticizes or accepts #oldsteem as bad. We do grow and evolve with time but we also fondly remember our past which made the present possible.

Several consumer products too come up with this "new" term prefixed to their brand name with some slight ingredient, design or packaging change but that doesn't represent a complete overhaul. IMHO, it would have been better to popularize some name that is assigned to the HF.

However, I appreciate the thought and effort you put for the cause of Steem. Just thought to share my opinion with you here.

Hey Thank you for real feedback. I appreciate it. As stated in the post, I wanted to test how it resonated with people, I am not seeking blind approval.

The #newsteem post received 540 comments and engagement is still going on. That is a marketing win even though I know many probably don't like it. (which is true with nearly anything)

This one on the other hand, while it gets some direct approval and disapproval, isn't creating near the feedback so not as powerful I would say.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply and honesty. That's rare and appreciated.

I agree, real feedback is great.

It seems I'm the only one here who don't like this slogan. "the pulse of Crypto!" doesn't describe Steem well.

It's true that it doesn't currently describe Steem very well. But I want it to. Sometimes a slogan is more optimistic before it's popular.

E.g.:

  • Capital One – "What’s in your wallet?" When that slogan was created, I bet someone in marketing pointed out that the answer was "Not Capital One."
  • Grey Poupon – "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?" How pretentious. What kind of snob would buy that?
  • Hallmark – "When you care enough to send the very best" But it's also literally the least you can do.
  • Kay Jewelers – "Every kiss begins with Kay" The slogan that only works on the radio.
  • Smucker’s – "With a name like Smucker’s, it has to be good" Come on. They weren't even trying.

I did up a post ages ago with STEEM the people's blockchain or STEEM the gateway to cryptocurrency. I think STEEM can be a learning curve for normal people to get into the crypto world and learn new things. Wouldn't be a fan of the pulse either.

You have the best point of view and it's up the people how they define it and define themselves here in #newsteem.
