Whether you were for it or against it the Hardfork is coming!

While I suppose it is possible that the Witnesses will not drop it, two of the top 20 are already running the new code and if 17 have started running it on Aug 27th it will be live.

What's New?

SPS: A Stakedriven community fund for projects that are beneficial to the Steem blockchain.

EIP: A change in financial incentives meant to encourage more curation and less self-upvoting

Six Minute Curation Windows: It is my opinion this works better with natural use. As you scroll through your feed if you want to upvote something, you don't have to worry about coming back in 15 minutes. (Yes, it will be gamed everything is)

What Does All This Mean?

While no one knows for sure what impact these changes will have, and I personally was for some and opposed to others, I'm just expecting it to be #NewSteem. It's kind of exciting that we have no idea how that will settle out. I was getting pretty bored of OldSteem.

Here are some just for fun predictions:

  • I expect the see the return of curation trails (possibly both up and downvotes)
  • I expect to see less self voting
  • I expect to see more downvotes, both vindictive and curation
  • I expect to see a bit of DRAMA and then a return to a new normal.
  • I expect some will be shocked by the decrease in the value of our outgoing votes at first, but if behavior adjusts that could change as well.
  • I expect we will see many posts about downvoting as we adjust to the new tools.

Most who have autovoters running will need to update some setting and maybe they will also change some things around.

What I am really excited about is the flexibility Tribes are providing for communities that would like to have their own financial incentives and it seems that even before the HF tribes have made curation cool again. :)

These changes are big enough to shift everything! Are you ready?

i've noticed, perhaps in response to the coming hardforks, group voting trails for individual tokens that autovote everything for the tag curation reward, group vote their bloggers in that tag (usually low level posts i wouldnt give the time of day), then pay out the delegators with a portion of rewards. in a sense, and of course my opinion, a form of self voting and farming. the hard fork isnt even here yet and already people are managing a work around.

How come? Because of the 50 - 50 implementation our vote value will decrease?

When you vote you are distributing Author rewards.

10% of Author Rewards have been reallocated to the SPS.
Plus 50/50, so yeah outgoing votes are going to look like they are worth much less. Some will earn it back in cuation rewards, but not everyone.

I should have added the #newsteem tag today! It surely is seeming like it as I have been claiming more tokens more often off of Steem Engine than my Steem Wallet!

Yes, these are exciting days! Personally, I no longer auto-upvote for now. I have gone back to manual curation. Just my way for now. This decision will probably be reflected on the upvotes on my posts. It is what it is.

I am 100% behind the #newsteem initiative (I perceive it to be a mindset). If we, who are here, are not excited and supportive of our ecosystem; how can we expect to spearhead a mass adoption or new investors?

Then again I am not that bright. That is okay.

Thanks! Yeah I have more time now to start blogging and curating again. I figured this is a good time to start again like the last time the STEEM price went down to 7 cents :P
