English news:

Cheng Lei: Australian anchor on Chinese TV detained in China

"Australia's government warned its citizens in July that they were at increased risk of detention in China."

--- But, surely, nothing could happen if you are friendly to the CCP, if you do emperor Xi's bidding. Right?

"Ms Cheng has worked for CGTN for eight years and presented a show on global business for the network."

--- Should be a lesson for all those Westerners working for Chinese propaganda. You're not safe either, once the CCP thinks you are worth more as a hostage.

Australian citizen detained in China amid increasing tensions between Canberra and Beijing

"Cheng was born in China but later became an Australian citizen"

--- So, in the eyes of the CCP she is anyway still Chinese. I wonder if for the commies she then counts as a foreign hostage or not.
Meanwhile, in totally unrelated news:

China targets Australian wine again as trade tensions escalate

"The ministry said it will investigate 40 allegations of unfair government subsidies in the Australian wine sector.
The probe is yet another sign that the relationship between the two countries is deteriorating. "

--- Well, if you criticise the mafia, that is what happens. Just accept that the family is sacred. If you submit, everything will be fine.

Curbs on Mongolian Language Teaching Prompt Large Protests in China

"demonstrations, which began late last week, are focused on an education policy announced this summer, which calls for Chinese to gradually replace Mongolian as the language of instruction"

--- Of course a measure to make the life of Mongolians easier. If you submit to the CCP, you better do it in Mandarin Chinese.

"the new policy states that the Mongolian language would still be taught to students"

--- When your mother is taught to you as a 2nd language.

"The existing bilingual education system has not changed"

--- Of course, nothing has changed, absolutely nothing. It just turned 180°.

India accuses China of 'provocative military movements' at border

"Chinese border troops have always strictly observed the Line of Actual Control and have never crossed the line."

--- But of course. Only that we shifted the line a bit here & there...

China warns Czech leaders will pay 'heavy price' for Taiwan visit

"Czech Senate Vice President Jiri Ruzicka and the chairs of major senate committees as well as Prague Mayor Zdenek Hrib along with business leaders, university presidents, civic organizations and news media, traveled to the Asian nation."

--- Shocking, truly shocking. The Czech Republic must pay for this heinous action which clearly shows that the whole nation is morally corrupt.

"China condemns this despicable act"

--- Yes, shocking, truly shocking. The Czech Republic obviously left the community of civilised nations. How dare some representatives of a democratic state visit another democratic state. This is an anti-Chinese conspiracy!

"this so-called 'visit' deliberately wrecks the political foundation of China-Czech relations"

--- Hmm, "so-called visit". I wonder what else we should call it.

"Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi denounced Vytrcil's trip, saying that he would "pay a heavy price" for his appearance"

--- German foreign minister will meet Wang later this week. He will surely have some harsh words about Chinese threats, like:
Maas: Those threats agains the Czech Republic. That's not nice to say.
Wang: Their visit was despicable. We have every right to be angry & punish the Czech Republic for this act of defiance.
Maas: Oh, I see. But, well, I wanted to have mentioned it. Back to our economic relations...

Huawei cuts ties with Canberra Raiders, citing 5G ban and 'negative' attitude to Chinese companies

"This is a direct result of the 5G ban"

--- Yeah, right. Sports sponsorship is marketing directed at the government, not at the people to buy phones. Obviously.

Raiders officials paid tribute to Huawei
[...] "Huawei's commitment to the Raiders has been unwavering""

--- Hmm, "unwavering". They just cancelled their sponsorship. I wouldn't call that unwavering, but maybe that's just my bad English.

Local Governments Order to Remove Private Satellite Receivers

"The clean-up is carried out in the name of “maintaining ideological safety.”"

--- Ideological safety. That's a new one. Well, new. First time I hear the term (IIRC), but of course common practice in the PRC for a long time.

In China’s Xinjiang, Forced Medication Accompanies Coronavirus Lockdown

"Once a day, she says, community workers force traditional medicine in white unmarked bottles on her, saying she’ll be detained if she doesn’t drink them."

--- Promotion (of useless products) with Chinese characteristics.

Deutsche Nachrichten:

USA vs. China: Hongkong bekommt keinen Anschluss an neues US-Unterseekabel

"Zwar wurde die Verbindung nach Hongkong bereits gelegt, sie soll aber nicht in Betrieb genommen werden."

--- Ob die Firmen dafür wenigstens eine Entschädigung bekommen?

Keine Korrespondenten, keine Studenten, keine Sprachkurse
