Enemies – James 4:4

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

James is calling it as it is. Sin is sin. Now, the question is “Who is James talking to here?” Consider James 1:1.

James 1:1 - James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.

He’s talking to Believers. So a believer can be an enemy of YHWH. That’s right. You may claim to be a believer, and that’s great. Yet, it seems that the more significant question is “Are you a friend of the world?” How close to the world are you walking? Are there things from the world in your life that opposes the Word of YHWH?

This is something we can’t just breeze over. Our verse is talking directly to believers. So, it’s talking to you and me? One more time.

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.

What a profound statement. Friendship with the world is enmity towards the Most High. We are not to love the world or the things of this world, but love God and our neighbor. This world is fading, but we must not fear. We have been crucified to the world and the world has been crucified to us! We only fear God!

But as for me, may I never boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:14

And it is easy to get caught up in the world at times...that is for sure!

Very serious question. Thank you!
There should be a clear difference between how we as children of God act and how unbelievers act.
How will we have a testimony if we do as the world?
