Film dobře využil toho, co jsem v post pubertě, no možná stále v pubertě chtěl asi vidět - tajemno, mysteriózno, trochu depka vše zasazeno do nám blízkého prostředí. Skvělá dobová hudba, obsazením herecké ikony osmdesátek Patricka Swayzeho (a budoucích hvězd filmového plátna - Jake Gylenhaal a Drew Barrymore dokonce i Seth Rogen) i zvolením vlastního žánru. Režisér Richard Kelly odvedl při psaní scénáře i režii dobrou práci (dobové popkulturní odkazy - promítání dobového hororu Evil Dead v kině atd.). No i když ten závěr mi musí někdo vysvětlit.

Donnie bojuje se svými démony, v přeneseném i skutečném slova smyslu, a prožívá příběhy, související s putováním v čase, s fundamentalistickými guru, osudem i machinacemi s vesmírem.

Donnie Darko was a complete cult among my acquaintances, college students. More or less I didn't know anyone who didn't. I jumped on this wave a little later, but still.

Really brilliantly written and filmed teenage mysterious sci-fi, which is situated in the eighties ... Well, not only that - in my opinion, the film is at least with an ambiguous-sounding story. Where the person watching the film goes the which is entirely up to him. Retro stylization went well into the 80's, so you don't realize it could have been recorded in 2001. Which is realy great achievment. Great music of that times, with cast filmstar of 80's Patrick Swayze (and future screen stars - Jake Gylenhaal and Drew Barrymore even Seth Rogen). Film is choosing his own genre. Director Richard Kelly did a good job of writing the script and directing (like pop culture references - screening of the period horror film Evil Dead in the cinema, etc.). The film is intended for teenagers and is one of the best that has ever been made "for teenagers"... Well, even if someone has to explain the conclusion to me. Do you have any opinion on it?

(official text of the distributor):
One might think that Donnie Darko is a typical teenager. But Donnie is a disappointed boy, suffering from visions of a huge rabbit trying to get him under his devastating influence. To prevent this, he commits acts that lead him to psychotherapy. He survives the difficulties of high school life and love and escapes the bizarre death that threatens him when the engine falls from a plane. Donnie fights his demons, both literally and truly, and experiences stories related to time travel, fundamentalist gurus, destiny and machinations with the universe.

I once wrote an entire "explanation" of the film using some other online sources and also what I could gather from the film. Was fascinated with the time travel and all that. Those days are long gone but there's still a bit love left for the film.

Btw, if you want to primarily use cine tags, I think its better to use other community tags that are also related to cinema somehow. I'm pretty sure not all of them are.
