Greetings to all! I am presenting this enormous tree which bears our pride and trademark. This gargantuan tree is the same tree that has attracted many visitors and tourists whenever they go for a tour around the panoramic views of Canlaon City.

TOURIST ATTRACTION

People love to take photos of themselves with this more than a century old 'Balete Tree'. Otherwise known as The Century Tree, this ficus tree doesn't look like a normal big tree that you see everyday. I myself have visited this place several times because our visitors and relatives usually ask to see this great century tree.

RESIDENTS

What makes this unique is that it has a hollow part in the inner portion in between the big roots or the vine-like branches. Bats, Geckos and insects dwell in this dark moist area. Well, it may look eerie but the more it added to its unusual characteristics.

BELIEFS

In fact, quack doctors and other superstitious believers make offerings and offer prayers inside the hollow tree. They believe that spirits live inside the century tree.

If you look at it closely, the tree seems to be composed of multiple trees that are intertwined with each other, which depicts a mysterious appearance that it looked more attractive especially during nighttime where multiple flashing fireflies illuminated the crown of the tree when the weather is good.

For the record, this huge tree cannot be circled by 20 people holding each other. Botanists estimated the Balete tree to be 1,328 years old.

This beautiful place is situated along the Japanese farm called OISCA in Barangay Lumapao. Their ricefields and mini zoo with wide pool added to the attraction while you enjoy the site of the volcano. Actually, this place is only a walking distance from our homestead where I planned to put up our Nipa hut.

This is all for now, and my thanks to @Barski for initiating this contest.

Till then,

@Sarimanok
