Quarantine Diaries: Day 16

Here in Minnesota, yesterday the governor issued a “stay at home” executive order that goes into force tomorrow at midnight. My son was going to join us for dinner early next week but now it looks like he’ll be joining us by FaceTime instead.

Charts based on bad data can be reassuring:

The Arc of the Long Descent

The pandemic virus will trigger a wider reorganisation of life – a further shift to remote forms of working and a greater focus on reliance at a personal, family, corporate and national level. Governments around the world will prioritise the re-localisation of the production of goods: China and the south-east Asian region will be the main casualty of this trend.

If the FDIC is starting to put out videos assuring us that our money is safe in banks, the contrarian in me does start to wonder if it’s time to have some extra cash on hand:

Italy has been Europe’s hardest hit country but things are not going well in Spain either:

The Spanish military has found older residents of some care homes "completely abandoned" and even "dead in their beds," Defense Minister Margarita Robles said in a television interview on Monday.
They were found as soldiers disinfected and provided emergency health care services this week to residential homes across the country.

We’re starting to see some weird headlines:
Social distancing or tornado shelter... Which takes precedence?

I have no idea how valid the methodology is but for what it’s worth, a map purporting to estimate the parts of the world most vulnerable to Covid-19.

Barber's marketing message: 10/10

Definitely knows how to retain customers... for the future.

Also, great summary on what's happening!

As we enter Q2, I am curious to see the damages (from financial standpoint). Definitely testing times for the economy!
