Quarantine Diaries: Day 200

I haven’t done a #quarantinediaries post each of the last 200 days, but when I started I didn’t think I’d still be doing them 200 days later. What a seriously screwed up year 2020 is. Should I stop posting them? Keep going? Does anyone care one way or the other? Let me know in the comments below.

I‘m not sure that this can be much of a cushion given years of a just-in-time delivery system that’s encouraged having minimal warehouse space available but it’s a sign that at least some are thinking about what might be a long, hard winter:

Grocers Stockpile, Build ‘Pandemic Pallets’ Ahead of Winter

What’s astonishing is that this is not coming from a former prosecutor, but rather a current federal prosecutor who’s publicly calling out his boss for “a dangerous abuse of power.”

With his repeated refusals this week to accept the peaceful transfer of power — the bedrock principle that has sustained American democracy for 228 years — President Trump has put the United States, in some ways, where Germany was in 1933. That is when Adolf Hitler, the appointed leader, used the suspicious burning of the German parliament to turn a democracy into a totalitarian state.
