The 31 Sentence Contest: Round 18
Welcome. You have stumbled upon a new adventure. One that will challenge you to grow; one that is filled with twists and turns; one that will have your piece swinging like the rhythm of a jazz ensemble that keeps readers and listeners engaged to the very end (or we crash into a wall and die; either way, we'll learn something together).
....The road to wealth comes from understanding yourself. Doing what you do best, not what other people do best.
--John Taylor Gatto

The old-timer sponsor(s) list:
Bananafish has supported this contest from day one! with upvotes. | ||||
Build-it supports us with build tokens through steem-engine. They seek to "reward those who put in lots of effort into their DIY and How-to articles." Please, feel free to peruse their introductory post to learn more about what they do. |
(currently waiting on steem-engine to update to the HIVE, if they do at all)
1. One Entry Per Person.
2. Inspired by the prompt and follows the random number order exactly with the correct amount of words in each sentence (explained below).
3. Prose or poetry; any form and genre of fiction is accepted.
4. It must be a story. Refer here for an explanation of what the essential elements of a story must contain in order for it to be considered a story by me.
5. Contest closes at the end of this post's payout. Tuesday is the day this contest comes out.
6. In your entry, link back to this contest somewhere in your post.
8. Post a link to your tale in the comments below.
9. Your entry must be in English.
The Prompt (explained)
The PROMPT: this is what your story is tied to in some way and in some fashion of your choosing within the fiction realm. Easy enough - we hope.
The Sentences: # 1-31(explained)
This idea comes from John Taylor Gatto. In this interview - PDF, he speaks about the inner jazz of writing coming to life simply by applying this method. I've been curious to see this in action. So ...
The SENTENCES: This objective here will have you writing out exactly 31 sentences, found below the prompt in a randomized order. The number of words for each and every sentence corresponds with the sentence number you are on.
For example, if 1 is the number that is up, you may only use one word that will complete the sentence (I know - technically, one word isn't a sentence but deal with it 8-). If 31 is the number, you construct a sentence that is 31 words in length, no more no less. The same goes for all numbers. (Here you'll find excellent examples from the previous rounds that are found at the bottom of the post should you need to see examples.)
Except for number 1, all sentences must, at the very least, follow basic grammar and punctuation rules. You may construct your paragraphs however you see fit (unless you're purposely putting each sentence on its own line, it should read like it is coming from a book or some other like source).
I, @tristancarax, am the judge. Beyond basic grammar and punctuation, I'm looking for stories (refer to rule #4), whether your entry is in prose or poetry.
And there you have it. I'm excited to see what your minds create and imagine through this exercise.
The Prompt:
[Photo from "Fallout Shelter" (a free game you can play through STEAM, not steem 8-)]
Sentence order:
8, 22, 6, 12, 19, 26, 4, 7, 13, 31, 29, 1, 27, 18, 10, 5, 11, 30, 23, 25, 20, 21, 15, 28, 16, 3, 9, 24, 14, 17, 2

First Blood!
Wow, the support for the contest coming in is really awesome!
Slowly but surely. 8-)
You've been here since the beginning to see its growth.
Here is my story (https://peakd.com/hive-170798/@felt.buzz/safe-a-31-sentence-story-just-for-fun).
Please note: This is just for fun. I am excluding myself from winning any prizes (Reason: I am a contributor to the prize pool)
So awesome that you would join just for the fun of it.
It's good fun and a great exercise 🐝
I got intrigued after reading the post from @felt.buzz and I thought I might just give it a try. After all, I too write with #freewrite and if there's a new contest which further test our skills, I'm game for it 😄
So happy to read. Good luck, brave story teller.
Count me in. Once per week you can leave a comment under my last post (@mariuszkarowski) with a link to the winner
haha. I not quite sure how to respond to this. On one hand, I'm very happy and, on the other, there might be some SBI peeps who join that you have/stil do DV.
I feel that I must let people know (here only in this thread; it will be a thread I might tag someone in who has questions) that you have been supporting my work for the past couple of months, of which, I'm actually very grateful for. I still HIGHLY disagree with your mission against SBI (if you are still on it - I haven't been following) and I still don't see you as a monster either (perhaps I'm just too nice?!?! lol).
I did have someone who asked me a while back how I was getting upvoted by you after all that has happened. Here is my responce.
I, also, when I was paying attention, haven't seen you flat-out attack someone (other than me one time - you got jokes and I laughed). So, yeah ... at least you've been respectful in this sense.
Here is my additional request: For those that still choose to purchase SBI, if they enter and win this contest, you leave them alone for a week (and/or for life? haha). I won't be playing favorites for someone either simply because they do purchase SBI. I'm looking for high-quality work so you won't see a winner (unless there is a very low contestant entry and I'm left to work with what I've got) that hasn't put in the work.
If/when you, @mmmmkkkk311, have/do stop(ped) your mission against SBI, I'll leave an additional comment underneath here somewhere.
For now, I will be leaving a link to the winners here at @mariuszkarowski as you have requested.
Thanks for your support, @mmmmkkkk311.
I'm going to keep downvoting everyone who is paying for upvotes but you shouldn't worry about that, just give me a link, If post has been already downvoted by me, I can remove downvote and then upvote this post
forget about everything

That should be what is being transferred over from steem to here on hive. Since I'm leaving steem, I'm transferring over everything that I can to the hive.
And it was. I just checked. So, you will see that I have no sbi on the steemit platform because it was transferred to here on HIVE. Although I have thought about it before (not as of late), I didn't go figure out a way to go behind your back and do something sneaky. Besides, I don't have the money to do that at the moment nor do I have a reason for that amount since I don't give it out in the contest.
Now you might say, "but you didn't have SBI days ago," to which I say you are wrong because even that was a direct copy of what I had on steem. You can check previous post to see that I was getting my regular upvotes from SBI once they migrated over to the hive (which was about a week after the hive launch, I think).
So yeah ...
I went and found the "transfer request fund" that I sent 6 days ago. You can find it too.
So, are we cool?
If it's not a proxy or off chain purchase then I apologize, so yeah, we are cool
Thanks for the apology.
I'm guessing that you will be seeing more things like that for a while, not on my account but all who are transferring over from steem to hive or even visa versa. I won't be paying close attention though. All that I know is is that my account is settled with them at the moment.
Oh man, you are so full of crap...
You just downvoted my entry in this weeks contest. Not only do I contribute to the prize pool of THIS contest (that you are "generously" offering to help) I exclude myself from the prizes (and just entered the contest for fun).
I still have no idea why you target the "little" people on this platform. I assume it makes you feel like a big man.
I will continue to help people (I assume I was targeted because I bought SBI for winners of my contest yesterday). I won't be bullied.
Have your fun, I'm glad it makes you feel important.
I got you, @ireenchew, covered for this round, but, please, remember to post here in the comments. I would have missed your entry if I didn't see a name notification for me in my alerts. I want to reward people for their work!!! 8-)
Glad to have you aboard.

Alright! Let's do this one more time
Hi! How are you, @tristancarax? This is my 2nd time in this contest, so be gentle ^_^

Great prompt, had plenty of fun thinking of different ways to go with it, thanks :)

Hey! Happy to see you back. I can't wait to get to what you have come up with.
