Repairing the loose screen on my camera

The second Panasonic Lumix GH3 I bought had a few issues upon inspection of it. One was a slipping function wheel, which was fixed with a dab of super glue. The other issue is a loose or wobbly LCD screen. The GH3 has a fold out screen to view settings, video or photos while operating the camera. But the screws holding the screen to the frame of the camera loosen up over time. Since this GH3 I bought appeared to have many hours of use it probably became loose over time.

I attempted to follow this guide but I found my fine screw drivers were stripping the heads of the screws in the cameras body. I think my little screw drivers metal is too soft and crappy. Need to invest in some hardened small screw drivers eventually. Though this did not stop me from fixing the issue, I needed to use a hook tool to pry off the hinge door covering the loose screw.

I decided to go this route, even though its more destructive I think a broken screen due to some loose screws is the worst of two. Carefully using the prying tool I worked the door off the single screw holding it in place. I inspected the hinge and found it to be loose just as I thought, because of screw that was not tightened.

I removed the screw and added some loctite to the threads and put it back in. Next is the fix the hinge door. Using superglue again I placed a big dab on where the screw was holding the door in place previously. And then added some around the seams between the camera body and hinge door.

Letting it sit for 24 hours for both the loctite and superglue to dry and cure. I come back the next day to see how they are shaping up. It was sturdy, and the glue is holding the pryed off hinge door in place. I guess over time we shall see if the superglue fails, but at least the loose screen is fixed and that loctite should last many more years before I need to worry about that upper hinge again. Maybe ill need to do the same repair the bottom hinge, but ill wait for it to become loose before doing so. At least the process should be similar and familiar.

This GH3 is all ready to go, now its up to me to bring it along on adventures and capture the moments. With Spring on the way I plan on doing so. Glad the repairs were successful, even if the way they were repaired was not the way planned.
