Coronavirus, Blockchain, and the Dow

The Path of the Economy

With the little time I can afford to dedicate to blockchain, I thought I would a recap recent events and add my two bits about what we might see in the near future. Allow me to start with three primary concepts that draw correlations between the coronavirus, blockchain, and traditional financial markets like the Dow.

#1 The Nature of Change

The coronavirus is causing mass panic that will allow governments and other large organizations to take actions that would otherwise be unacceptable.

#2 Unseen Change

Blockchain technology is already being employed for supply chains and logistics by large corporations that substantially impact traditional financial markets. Many of the companies on the Dow Jones Industrial Average are seriously looking into, or already employing, aspects of blockchain to make their operations more efficient.

#3 Changing Portfolios

In recent years, blockchain has shown rare signs of independence from the ups and downs of traditional markets. For instance, Bitcoin outperformed gold over several months. More recently, investment analysts and mutual funds have recommended including Bitcoin and even Etherium in their portfolios. This has given confidence to the crypto market. It is a confidence that appears to be gaining momentum all while coronavirus hysteria tracks down the Dow.

Connecting the Dots

Each of these concepts could independently become a substantial driving force behind the blockchain industry and cryptocurrencies for small business and individual consumers. When we take them all together, it is hard to imagine the industry not beginning to blossom this year (or at that the latest by 2022).

Opinion

My personal belief is that blockchain and artificial intelligence will combine to do something very special. Development shifting to browser-based applications to cater to a mobile first world will bring tokenization to the internet. Several developers and blockchain professionals have put forth the idea that we will one day see a network that connects all blockchains. Projects like Liquid Apps and several others are working toward this goal.

Beyond Protocols: Blockchain is a Movement

If you doubt a interconnected blockchain network, you do not need to look further than what's happening here with Steemit and Tron. This might be a great use case to compare the differences between being absorbed through a corporate merger versus reprogrammed through blockchain networking. A merger might just be more costly than building a bridge across blockchains. This could also show us how to be more opportunistic with latent resources

Conclusion

I'd be the first to say that some of my ideas here are highly speculative. If you take away three things, let them be the following:

  • Change that occurs during mass hysteria often persists.
  • Large corporations employment of blockchain will grow because blue chip companies only make substantial investments in certainty.
  • If the blockchain industry has overcome the influence of traditional markets, we might witness a transition much grander than the impact credit cards had on paper money and it may occur within the next year or two.

Dear @machnbirdsparo

Very catchy topic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this particular issue.

It's very true, that current crisis will allow our authorities to implement changes - which otherwise would not be possible. And it's scary to think what kind of changes can take place. I believe that our freedom will be limited like we've never seen before.

If you doubt a interconnected blockchain network, you do not need to look further than what's happening here with Steemit and Tron. This might be a great use case to compare the differences between being absorbed through a corporate merger versus reprogrammed through blockchain networking.

I've lost you here. What do you mean?

ps. I wonder what's your take on silver and gold?

Yours, Piotr

Really just that blockchain ledgers will become so adept at influencing supply chains that they will be tied into business dealings. I.e. Conditions of a merger, where blockchain will even take over contract aspects of mergers.

In terms of Steem and Tron, consider how IBM, Amazon, and Alibaba all have significant blockchain investments. IBM is aggressively competing with AWS and Amazon and Alibaba each dominate a half of the globe. Blockchain ledgers can identify who would be the best at web services, IBM or Amazon. The same would go for a global package delivery service once we get to cheap sub space transports.

An example of a pre-blockchain thought process by executives would be IBM and Alibaba teaming up to take out Amazon and then Amazon looking for alliances elsewhere.

Of course this all comes from a corporate perspective and not of fully distributed blockchain networking system.

Well the combination of the blockchain and artificial intelligence, that is sure one that to look up to.
There are still lots of beautiful and great ideas yet to be unfolded, we just have to fold our hands and watch the way things unfold and we hope it is for the best.

Indeed.. hope and optimism supported through even modest action.

If the intervention of AI with blockchain will help to put an end to this deadly virus, then it should be greatly considered and effort should be put in place to make it a reality immediately.

Should..yes, most certainly. Though, top leaders like Putin have openly stressed the importance of AI and he just may have well made himself dictator for life like China's Xi.

blockchain and artificial intelligence

Can you give me a couple of examples, please? Names of companies or blockchains?

IBM is out there in the public eye.
https://www.ibm.com/blogs/blockchain/2019/08/ibm-and-travelport-bringing-ai-and-blockchain-innovations-to-market/

Amazon employs a managed blockchain service (AMB) to support its Amazon Web Services (AWS).
https://aws.amazon.com/managed-blockchain/
AWS also has its own AI.
https://aws.amazon.com/ai/

Here are two example where Amazon hosts a blockchain for companies that are using AI and machine learnign (ML). Amazon works closely with Ethereum. The degree to which I do not know.

https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/seller-profile?id=46a69afb-ff1a-45cd-b535-26c17bc3b659

Also note that there are independent blockchain projects seeking to embed a semi-robust AI.
