Hummingbirds are the Mean Girls of Nature - Freewrite Day 726

When I first moved to a quiet street in Coronado California, I wondered what the commotion was outside. I heard loud clicking and squeaking noises outside in the mornings. I did not recognize this sound as birds, but that is what they were. Hummingbirds were fighting over the nectar in the flowering plants in the yard.

Later my neighbor told me hummingbirds fought all the time and ganged up on each other. This turned out to be true. The weaker birds would be driven off and the stronger would each go to the flowers.

There is a hummingbird house at the san diego zoo and they told me the same thing. When I asked which of the hummingbird species fight, the answer was, “All of them.”

Searching the internet gives many results on this topic.

[How To Get Rid of Bully Hummingbirds)[https://www.perkypet.com/articles/how-to-get-rid-of-bully-hummingbirds)

Who knew? Hummingbirds are territorial and will also go after you. They avoid humans, but re not scared of them.

Until I found this out, I thought these little birds were cute. I never saw them growing up way in the north.

Sometimes the tiniest things are what you need to look out for.

My post is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest for the prompt of “hummingbird flower.” Freewrite is a great way to post on STEEM when you do not think you have the time, or talent, or anything to say. It’s a great way to start regular posting, and I know you can do this too! Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

I had no idea! I only get a few of them in my yard, and they look harmless. They sure stay far away from me. Maybe I have so few because those I do have are big bullies.

I had no idea that hummingbirds are warrior birds, I imagine this is so because being so small they must demonstrate their power. Receive my affections @fitinfun.

I have read about this before or watched it somewhere. It is not highlighted that much so I guess I easily forget.

Argh. And I thought when the hummingbirds come right up to me, they are bringing me good tidings - now, it seems they are looking for a fight! 😂

The hummingbirds are everywhere here near the canyons! They dive bomb you and get aggressive! they make the craziest sound like an organic drone

its hard for me to accept evolution when i see them, i wonder how they were not designed i mean come on they are natures drones , they are BETTER than our drones, way more maneauverable.HOW did they just evolve helicopter wings? I dunno its amazing. I guess humans naturally created flying machines too so i guess its just inevitable
