There is no "we" here. Only me.

As a nomad, I have left out of many places in my life with only what I could carry. As a sick and physically weak person, I can never carry much.

By the time I was 20, I had "lost all my stuff" at least 10 times. Since then, I've stopped counting and generally try not to miss anything from the past. Can you take it with you to your grave? Then it is not to worry about now.

I brought way too much stuff when I came to SE Asia. Most if it I have consumed or dropped off along the way. It's much easier for me to travel light, even though some things might come in handy.

One thing I miss is a jar opener I used to have. That gadget could open any lid of any size, and if I had thought to take it when I left it somewhere, I think I would still have it now.

Every time I cannot open a jar, I think of it and laugh at myself. It was certainly small enough to have stayed with me.

One thing I never leave behind is my memories. They might fade and change and turn into something they were not. But they make me happy to think of them and sustain me in bad times. They become subjects of my writing, or lessons learned, or thoughts to ponder with a quiet mind.

I take photos incessantly and have since childhood. I have about 75,000 photos on my current laptop and twice that in two external drives I carry now. But over the years I have lost many more than that. I can think of some of them I wish I still had. But if I can think of them - they are still here anyway.

My photo for this post is a selfie I took with a Canon Rebel I had for awhile until I realized I could not carry it and had no interest in learning how to use it right. This photo showing me as an alien was taken with a tripod and delay setting. Give me a point and shoot anytime.

My post today is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest with the prompt words of "only what we could carry." Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

It is funny what little things we miss, but how little significance stuff carries as we age and learn.

There are so many things that remind me time and time again of something or other that was once important to me, much like the absence of that can opener does for you.
Memories are the easiest thing to carry, and the most important, the most life sustaining, at least the good ones are.
I really enjoyed reading this freewrite Sharon.
