STEEMFest Food on the River Cruise was Awesome!

(Edited)

Most of us sat on the upper deck for the STEEMFest last night river cruise. Down below was this wonderful buffet spread which was open for most of the time we sailed.

Food, food, food. I ate more at STEEMFest in a few days than in the few weeks preceding it. Even so, I avoided many of the foods that are not really healthy for me.

But don't feel bad for me! I am 100% fullfilled. Thank you STEEMFest for all of these feasts.

AHHH!!!!!!

7 IMG_20191110_204933.jpg

Oh! These shrimp!!! So delicious. I did not eat the heads like Thai people do. And they were not cut down the back, so eating them was work. But the prawns were worth every bit of the effort.

I ate 5 and could have eaten 20.

This chicken dish is in my top five of all the many good things we had to eat at STEEMFest. The sauce was BBQ-ish, and the chicken was melt-in your-mouth tender, with great flavor. All thumbs up for this one.

Pad Thai

Thanks to the ravings of Dan @world-travel-pro, I already tried this dish for the first and last time in my life at our STEEMFest Day One Lunch. I did not take a photo since it was so awful.

If you like slimey, bland, over-cooked noodles, this is for you. I feel happy I will never think of eating Pad Thai again.

16 IMG_20191110_205054.jpg

Sauce, chili powder, peanuts and salt. I only got the photo.

18 IMG_20191110_205115.jpg

I did not eat any french fries. I will not go off on my tangent about them in the US. However, French Fries are the most poisoned and most frequently eaten food over there.

Please stop eating US potatoes unless they are organic, and no fast food French Fries pass this test.

9 IMG_20191110_204953.jpg

I took 4 limes and left two. I ate all of them except for the rind. Vitamin C!!!

20 IMG_20191110_205124.jpg

I only ate the sushis with the cappelin eggs. I could eat these eggs by the jar.

I scraped off the mayo. Then I ate the eggs and the seaweed wrapping and left the rice.

I see now I should have also tried the tuna.

22 IMG_20191110_205131.jpg

I love flan, and had at least 4 of these yummers.

24 IMG_20191110_205140.jpg

It looks like chocolate, but it is berry. No.

26 IMG_20191110_205146.jpg

No.

28 IMG_20191110_205149.jpg

No. When you see this green color, it is pandan. I like it but it is not a need, and I eat it many times a week in a normal Malaysian course of events. Pandan can be in any given food at any given time in SE Asia.

30 IMG_20191110_205153.jpg

Pineapple of the Gods.

32 IMG_20191110_205157.jpg

Very ripe and delicious watermelon. This is always far more tasty and softer than it was when I had it in the states.

34 IMG_20191110_205200.jpg

Awesome melon and papaya.

36 IMG_20191110_205204.jpg

I passed up all of this salad-like offering. The rolls are in some goopy stuff I know I do not like no matter what is inside. And regular lettuce salad is a bad reminder of all my fat days trying to survive on rabbit food.

38 IMG_20191110_205219.jpg

Is this calimari? I did not try it since peppers are a bad food for auto-immune disease

40 IMG_20191110_205232.jpg

Pork falling off the bones and very tasty. My small serving was not enough, but then I was too full to go back.

42 IMG_20191110_205249.jpg

I love cauliflower and got a lot of this. Wonderful!

44 IMG_20191110_205253.jpg

Yet again, yummy looking alfredo pasta I did not try.

46 IMG_20191110_205314.jpg

I really wanted this beef to be good. It is very expensive in SE Asia, so I rarely eat it, Sadly I could not cut it at all, and and so can only dream. I guess tough beef was not what I wanted anyway.

48 IMG_20191110_205318.jpg

This was at about one hour in, and the food kept coming.

Thus ends my posts to show you the food we ate at STEEMFest, and how I made them work for me. Eight years after losing "Half My Size" this comes very naturally now.

In the old days, I would have eaten all of the things I did not eat, and few of the things I did eat. Any one can make these changes if I did.

Even you.

Ask me, and I will help you.

Great sharing! I love chocolate and baked goodies. And, although I am not obese, I am overweight. I’ve been trying to change and do better. I made collard wraps recently. They’re OK, but still craved a goodie afterwards. Going to try making chickpea blondes with almond flour today.

Any pointers on dealing with goodie cravings would be most appreciated! TIA!

My weight loss and health plan is not about fighting individual cravings @cindyhartz, it is about getting an adequate diet, and then the cravings disappear for the most part. I did not believe this until it happened for me. Since then, I have watched it happen for others too.

My mantra for food is:

  • eat less crap
  • eat more nutrition.

"Crap" is processed food, colors, flavors, pesticides, chemical additives, gmos and any other poison. Work hard to get this out of your diet as it all hurts your ability to lose weight. Generally speaking, removing processed and fast food, and cooking for yourself with clean ingredients will do this.

As for nutrition, most people I work with are getting almost no nutrition when they start with me.

essential nutrients purple fitinfun.jpg

Get an online nutrition tracker and watch to see how much of the 31 essential nutrients you are getting in your food. Do not worry about calories, only nutrition.

Once you see the levels your current diet provides, pick a couple of nutrients you are weak in, and try to get 100-120% of the RDA for a week or two. Vitamin C and Fiber are two fairly easy places to start. Once you have those going good, add another nutrient, and get that into the good range.

With exercise, mix it up and do not do the same thing all the time. Stretch religiously before and after workouts, and you will see great results.

Feel free to get back to me with questions on any of this, and especially when you find out your nutrient levels. This is usually an eye opening moment.

As to your specific "Craves," I still eat chocolate (a lot). But it is high quality and has antioxidants. I would never eat a standard candy bar now. Since I have a clean diet, I can only taste chemicals and salt in mainstream US candy of any type and so I am not tempted.

For baked goods, again, "clean" is good. I went through a bread baking phase for a few years after I lost my weight and used all organic grains, etc. But now I find low carb works better for me and rarely eat grains at all. Except for a lot of rice since I am in SE Asia and it is every where.

Good luck and never give up!

Very diverse review. I was surprised to see chips (what you call french fries). Yes that is Calamari and it was damn good!

When I first got to Thailand I staying in hotel where they told me people from the US ask where they can get French Fries often. Thai's only know of them from the states. The stat I saw was that the "average American eats them 5x a week.

Now I will take a potato in any other way before chips. We sure had some fabulous food here otherwise, @slobberchops.

I only saw them in a couple of places. I was happy to eat the local cuisine TBH.

I eat lots of 'chips' when in the UK. Otherwise knows as FF's to people on the other side of the pond.
