Feathered Friday - 12 Blue Jay Photos

I'm back with another contribution to the Feathered Friday tag that @melinda010100 has kept flying on the Steem blockchain. It's been fun putting together these posts featuring the different kinds of birds I've captured over the years. This week, I'm swooping in with 12 Blue Jay photos, all taken in our Durham NH yard between June 2016 and December 2018.

I decided to go with the Jay because while I've seen them in the yard here and there, I haven't had a chance to capture any new shots. But I saw one of these shots when it popped up on my computer screensaver earlier today, and thought they'd make a good focus for today.

They seemed particularly perfect when I searched out the spiritual significance of these feather friends. According to Ted Andrews -

The blue jay is actually a member of the crow family, and most crows have no fear. Crows and jays alike will gang up to harass and drive off owls and hawks. The jay is fearless, and it is because of this that it can help you to connect with the deepest mysteries of the earth and the greatest of the heavens.

The blue jay is an excellent mimic, with a sharp eye and voice. It especially has a wonderful knack for imitating red-shouldered hawks. Old-time naturalists were convinced the blue jay derived pleasure from this activity. As with all members of its family, this sense of seeking pleasure--often at the expense of others--can reflect an imbalance. Sometimes jays show up when this is occurring in your own life.

Blue jays have a tremendous ability for survival with the least amount of effort. They reflect great talent, but that talent must be developed and utilized properly. If the jay has flown into your life, it indicates that you are moving into a time where you can begin to develop the innate royalty that is within you, or imply be pretender to the throne. It all depends on you. The jay has no qualms. It will teach you either direction.

Before I get started with my shots, I wanted to mention that you should definitely not miss the post Melinda did this week for her Grape jelly Feathered Friday. She has a wicked awesome variety of feathered friends who visit her jelly feeders - I especially liked the first shot of the male Baltimore Oriole.

Now, here are my 12 Blue Jay Feathered Friday Fotos!

Interesting bird...and they look beautiful! I don't think I know any other birds that have blue feathers except for the peacock until today from your post, so...a new TIL for me! :D

Thanks, @lilacse - they also have some almost purplish hues too, when the light it right. And glad I could provide a learning moment! 😊

I think of Jays as being cute and funny. They are fearless - unless there's another Jay around, lol. In the mornings when they're going after the peanuts and bread, often there will be 2 of them that can't decide what to do.

They'll start doing the be-bop thing, where they bounce up and down and make that unique "bloop a da bloop" sound, it cracks me up! Then a third Jay will swoop in and grab a peanut right in front of the two having an issue with each other. So funny!

They are wicked fun to watch, @free-reign! Especially in the winter, when I put bread and nuts out - that's when I notice the antics like you describe. They are super smart birds, that's for sure!

Bluejays are just beautiful, I mean have you ever seen another bird so blue and different shades of blue at that?

Thanks, @melinda010100! I was so excited that I got a clear shot of those bits of snow on him, and that he patiently posed for me like that!
