Feathered Friday - 12 Cardinal Photos

About a month ago, I remembered that the Feathered Friday tag is a thing (especially since @melinda010100 has kept flying on the Steem blockchain). Since then I've enjoyed putting together posts featuring the different kinds of birds I've captured over the years. This week, I'm swooping in with 12 Cardinal photos, all taken in our Durham NH yard between June 2015 and July 2018.

I picked this particular bird because when I was outside with our dog Sandy this morning, I saw not one, not two, but THREE male cardinals fly past me and land in a nearby tree. I've seen a couple of males together before, but never three, and never with such a dramatic entrance. I figured they were trying to get my attention so I'd give them a feature today.

Also, there is a spiritual significance to the Cardinal, as this bit of an awesome answer on Quora explains -

The red cardinal is shrouded by traditions and myths of all kind. Many of these revolve around good health, renewal and happy, healthy relationships just to name but a few. Digging deep into the life of these magical birds perhaps can reveal why so many good things are attributed to them.

For instance, unlike many other birds which are polygamous, red cardinals are monogamous, mating for life and living within a small area for the rest of their lives which they protect fiercely. When chicks are hatched, both parents are responsible for taking care of them to ensure their survival and security

If you share the belief that Cardinal are messengers from the spiritual realm, the net time you see one trying to get your attention you should ask yourself several questions. For example, who are you thinking at the time you spot a cardinal? Had you asked for spiritual guidance before spotting the Cardinal?

A sighting should bring peace and hope to you since you can be assured that your message has been heard. When you see a cardinal, you should always remember that the spirits are protecting you and don’t forget to thank the winged creatures.

Before I get started with my shots, I wanted to mention that you should definitely not miss the post Melinda did this week for her Feathered Friday. She has some wicked cool Crane captures from her visits to the International Crane Foundation

Now, here are my 12 Cardinal Feathered Friday Fotos!

Fabulous Cardinal photos and info @traciyork! Native Americans believe that all birds and animals, are messengers from the Great Spirit. Cardinal medicine symbolizes relationships.
I needed your Cardinals to visit me this week.

I'll keep an eye out for my local cardinals, @melinda010100, and see if I can get them to pass along to the ones in your neighborhood that you need a visit. 🐦

And thank you so much! ❤️

The ones I liked the most were number 1, 5 and 9... But each one of them is really beautiful.

Thanks so much, @joelsegovia! I have to say #9 is one of my favorites too, especially since I didn't try blurring the background with a filter - it came off my camera that way. For a lower-to-midrange priced camera, it takes some amazing shots. And again, thank you for your kind words!

Great, what model of your camera? I always have had a crush with photography, but still cannot afford to buy one😅

My camera is a Nikon COOLPIX P610 Digital (more info about it on Amazon HERE), and when my hubby got it for me a few years ago, it was about a third of the price of that listing!

You should be able to find a decent camera for a low price to get started, then upgrade eventually if you even need to. There are even some phones that have better cameras than cameras!

I would suggest using whatever you have available to take photos, and just start playing around - you'll have an even bigger crush in no time! 😊

I love cardinals! We have them here and I’m always trying to photograph them, but certainly haven’t come anywhere near to capturing clear shots like these. St some point I really am going to have to get a real camera.

I have a hard enough time getting these little guys with my fairly decent camera - I can't even imagine attempting it with a camera phone! You really should get the real deal some day - you already have a good eye for photography, so I can imagine how amazing your shots would be!

I have a cardinal couple that comes to my feeder. They are the tiniest birds that visit the feeder and I can't help but think they must be a bit intimidated by the jays, grackles, red-wing blackbirds and woodpeckers.

I didn't know about the spiritual aspects of the cardinals, so I couldn't say what I was thinking about or who I was thinking about any of the times I've seen them, but I'll be taking note of that going forward. Your pics and videos are awesome!

Over the past few years, when I had my feeder out, I noticed that the cardinals preferred to visit at dusk, when most of the other birds head flown back to their nests (and the lighting was terrible for pictures - brats! LOL!). I wouldn't be at all surprised to find they were lovers, not fighters.

I only heard about the "seeing a cardinal is a message from a loved one" aspect about a decade or so ago, and while it doesn't pop into my head each time I see them, I find it does at the times I need it most. I hope the same happens for you.

And thank you so much!

Cardinals have been getting my attention as well up here. Their call is so different and it is great seeing the shock of red in the trees.

My wife keeps saying they are dead relatives. Those dead relatives sure like our bird seed!!

Well, in my experience, my relatives never pass up the opportunity for free food, and wouldn't let a little thing like death get in their way... 😂

And yes, that brilliant flash of red is one of my favorite things to spot in the yard. 😊

Beautiful creatures are they not? We used to have them here long ago but now if we see them we are lucky. Lovely pictures my friend, thank you for sharing.
