Mousebird in action!

183.jpg
I will show you a Mousebird in a different tree today, as they normally eat in our high Palm tree.

This guy has real attitude and he knew that I was watching him.

The Red-faced Mousebird (Urocolius ineicus) landed in a Bottle brush tree.
215.jpg

He laughed and said; "Hahaha, thank you for the fruit mate"
201.jpg

Then he unceremoniuosly tucked into his breakfast.
203.jpg

You can see how he enjoyed the fruit.
219.jpg

Finally he was off again to get another fruit.
299.jpg

It is a real treat to watch the mousebirds in action and they are indeed beautiful birds. I think however that we are going to have some of the palm tree fruit branches removed and only keep two or three. They make a terrible mess below the tree, so now when I see the birds in the tree, I make a noise so that they can grab the fruit and fly off to eat them elsewhere. Less sweeping duties for me 😜

Note: All photos are my own and taken with a Canon Powershot SX60HS Bridge camera.

We hope that you enjoyed the story and the pictures.

Thank you kindly for supporting a post by @papilloncharity

They look cool with their long tail and the red face. Someone should teach them table manners 😜

Lovely birds mate and now I even know the lookout's alarm calls.
As long as the fruit lasts they will be here and strangely the bats have not returned.
Maybe Marian should buy a box of mini serviettes for them 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Ah, I forgot about the bats you have told a while ago - I was looking forward to the photos.

Maybe the Squirrels could teach them manners ;)

Nope, haven't seen the bats around again so they must be feeding elsewhere.
Maybe they will come back when all of the fruit elsewhere is finished.

Hahaha, the squirrels are more messier.

Cheers and thanks.

Our cats have quite good eating manners. Maybe I should but them in a box and send them to South Africa for teaching your animals. But I'm afraid at least the smaller ones might serve as teaching dinner 🤣

Good morning Hannes,

Please don't even think about sending the cats in a box so far, as the box will be hi-jacked and the cats will be sold on the black market for cullinary delicacies.
So, they won't be teaching dinner, as they will become dinner 😮

Cheers and thanks.

Good morning Zac,

oh, poor kitten 😥 maybe I should stop feeding them, because freight cost will get cheaper when they are lighter and maybe they will let them live if there's no meat on them 😎

Good evening Hannes,

Had a very loooong day today and traveled a few miles, so first a post and now the replies.

Hahaha, they will most definitely fine you heavily for sending skinny kittens around and the animal lovers will also be after you for the mistreatment of animals 🤣

Cheers and thanks!

Good evening Zac,

I have just seen your post and you may believe me, that I yould have loved to spend the day with you there.

Okay, now you have convinced me and I'll keep the kittens here, but you will have to live with the mannerless animals :)

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

Oh? I don't know if I have aready said good evening Hannes?
If not, please forgive. Our off weekend is now over and work has already started tonight, as we just had calls about the fire in Cape Town on Table Mountain.

One heritage restaurant already fell victim to the bush fire and all of the university students have been evacuated from their dorms, as the fire is headed that way. The bad thing is that the big Pine tree forests are now burning.

So people will need food and clothing, as this is terrible news and we will see what we can do to contribute.
The amazing thing is that we saw the colored clouds on our way back from the mountain pass and I took a photo of the clouds.
Look at this!

When I took this photo I thought it was so beautiful with the sun behind the clouds, but now I know that it was the fire clouds 40 kilometers away in Cape Town that were mixing with the natural clouds.

Let's hope that nobody get's hurt and that the wind will stay down.

Cheers and thanks.

Now I say good morning Zac 😉

Joan Stewart has told me about the new fire on Table Mountain - I hope you can help as many people as possible and that at least nobody gets hurt or worse.

The photo looks great if you don't know what's behind, just as you said.

Greetings to you again Hannes,

Right, I did not know that Joan told you and yes things are currently very bad, but I have mentioned it in a previous reply today to you.

Co-incidentally @galenkp had a post running this weekend in #theweekend about what 3 things one would take with you in case of a disaster and now we had hundreds of university students that were evacuated and had to cut and run before the fire. Some residents in other areas were also evacuated.

A woman sent her husband back to check if their house survived and when he arrived at their house, the fire men had broken the front gate open and they were hosing the flames on the roof of their thatched house. I don't know if the house survived. but they did and that's great as they can fight on another day.

Everone here is jumping in to help and I am so pleased to see that the big companies are also getting in with assistance.

Yes, now I realise what was the cause of that last photo my friend.

Cheers and thanks.

It's great that so many people help, and I honestly do hope that they can get the fire under control. Hopefully not too much will be destroyed.
I wonder why there are always people stupid enough to start a fire accidentally or even on purpose.

Yes, they have the fire under control now Hannes.
Thankfully low winds today and those brave fire fighters are experts in their trade.
The helicopers also have the chance to wash the mountain with water dops.
I said elsewhere that I will send you a damages report.

Stupid is as stupid goes my friend. A very true saying.

Cheers and thanks.

I'm glad to hear that, Zac, although much has been destroyed.

One can be stupid, I don't mind as long as he's no danger.

Hi @ayleenr this message seems to have escaped me.
Thank you and oh yes indeed the Mousebirds will not eat all fruits or even bread, but they love our old palm tree in the garden here.

Blessings and !BEER
