Wild Blackberries and Raspberries Oh Boy! #fff

(Edited)

With an abundance of berries weighing down every branch of every bush, making Raspberry and Blackberry sauce was moved to the top of the to do list.

Boy, are these suckers thorny. Coming back from a morning of picking, you can expect some battle wounds.

The berries are not very big, but they make up for it in quantity!

We try to gather about two pints of berries to cook down at a time. The berries are placed in a pot with about a 4 ounces of water, the juice from half of a lemon, and just a drizzle of maple syrup.

IMG_5203.JPG

After bringing the berries to a boil, the heat is turned way down and the berries are left to simmer for about 20 minutes. The aroma fills the house as they are cooked and strained.

Straining leaves nothing behind, but the wonderful juices.

IMG_5210.JPG

After straining the juice, it is placed in a glass pie dish to be frozen.

Once frozen, the juice is vacuum sealed and is ready to be used on salads, different fish dishes, and of course drizzled on some home made ice-cream, thanks @jlsplatts. You can see the different colors of the two packages. The darker packages are the Blackberries, and the lighter packages are the Raspberries.

Quite the spread ya’all got out there, sir.

No solar panels. We do have our own well and have a generator that will run the entire house when the electric does go out.
Good to hear from you @dandays, hope everything is going well!

Ohhhhh, I miss picking berries :) Nothing better than berry cobbler, pie, icecream, smoothies.....this looks wonderful. You'll love it during the cold winter months.

Breaking out a package during the winter months, does take a little edge off of the long winter.
Thanks for looking in @birdsinparadise.

Nothing beats fresh berries! Those look so delicious. Our berry season ended a few months ago here, but luckily we've got some squirreled away in the freezer, as well. Nice to pull some out in the dead of winter to enjoy!

This has been a great season for all of the wild berries. We have been picking for the past 6 weeks or so, and can still find a couple of hidden gems when looking closely.
Thanks for the visit, greatly appreciated @plantstoplanks

Awesome! We just picked pears from the tree at my boyfriend's parents' house this morning. They aren't great for eating fresh since they're a bit hard and fibrous, but they are great cooked and put into a number of different dishes! Fun to forage right from the backyard. :)

The pears may not be great to eat fresh, but fresh they are, no pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides.
Just a couple of weeks ago we picked so many peaches from @farm-mom's, uncle's peach tree, we made a great peach cobbler.

Yum! Oh yes, I will have lots of fun figuring out what I want to do with my pears. I already actually put some in my borscht yesterday. I love beets and pears together! :)

When I’m picking those blackberries, I end up in the middle of those thorns attempting to get the big bunch that nobody dares go after. Once a vine touches a pant leg or shirt tail, I swear the whole blackberry bush come to life and you end up wrapped in it. Lol

Drizzled on homemade ice cream!!! Now your talkin’!!

I'm not sure how, or where I should thank, @blocktrades, @ocdb, @ocd, or @curangle, as no reply has been left.
Well, if these people happen to run into this reply to my self, I would just like to thank them all. Your recognition and very generous up-vote is greatly appreciated.
