Fire Emblem Three Houses: Revised Review with final DLC

avatar

Some months ago, I completed Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This was prior to the launch of the final, "Wave 4" DLC, which introduced a side story, seperate from the main game. This added some significant value to the title, and in my experience, just for the side story, about another eight hours of gameplay.

What it also does, upon completion of the side story, is unlock new quests, classes, and characters that can be used in the main story, which adds an incredible amount of value and depth to a game that already has several dragon's lairs worth of depth.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a a console seller, a console keeper, and one of the best games that I've engaged with over an extended period.

As per my previous review, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a fantastic game.

This final DLC makes it something to revisit again, all the way through, which essentially adds another 10-30 hours of gameplay on a title that's already exceptionally good value on the scale of "how cheap are these hours of entertainment?"

Very cheap. Well worth the investment.

Anyway, onto the new downloadable content, which I've just finished. You delve into a side story, in the Abyss - an area benneath the monestary which acts as the central hub in the main game.

This is a delicate balancing act of a campaign, where resources, weapons, gold, and hero health are all resources you must leverage with delicacy and care, or you'll find yourself rewinding, restarting missions, and not having a good time.

The new battles and enemies are challenging, and assume a strong grasp of the game's mechanics - and even with an advanced grasp - it remains challenging, fresh, and new.

There's new classes by way of the characters you meet in the Abyss - and this means new attacks, new spells, and some new tricks. It's well balanced and thought out - and I can't wait to see how this changes the material of the base campaign.

That'll be a story for another day, however.

If you haven't got a Switch - get one, and get this game. You will not regret it. Get the DLC as well. Get some locks, put them on your doors and windows, close the curtains, and ignore everyone. Turn your phone off, and enjoy a game that makes you forget how much time you pour into it.

When you return to civilization, go and grab the past Fire Emblem games, and do the same thing. This is a series with an enormous level of sophistication and polish; and this final DLC means we can expect good things from Intelligent Systems when they decide to put out their next game.

Sounds like something I'd love! Unfortunately I swore off all games I would love after Final Fantasy for exactly that reason XD
