12 Days of Core-mas! 💪 {Another Festive Workout}

avatar

Hey everyone! With the holiday season here, I was inspired by my pal Julie to create another workout video to share after doing this particular routine on Thursday. She's known for doing variations of a "12 Days of Christmas" workout this time of year. Between her Training & Champagning page and the Excellence in Exercise social media sites, she has shared quite a few awesome workouts that are easy to do anywhere you find yourself this season. My version is a little twist that was specially created for my core class. They always enjoy (at least once we're done) a good workout!

Most everyone has heard of the song used for inspiration, and the workout scheme basically follows right along as you would expect! Perform 1 V-Up. Then perform 2 Leg Lifts and 1 V-Up. Next move up to 3 X-Body Sit-Ups, 2 Leg Lifts and 1 V-Up. Keep adding the next exercise each round until you do all 12 exercises for the full pyramid. It may seem easy at first, but I can assure you by the end you'll be feeling it, especially if you take minimal breaks throughout the workout. You can also start with the reverse and do 12 Hip Bridges. Then 11 Reverse Crunches and 12 Hip Bridges, all the way down. In class we did the reverse then the original for a major core burning workout!

  • 1 V-Up
  • 2 Leg Lifts
  • 3 X-Body Sit-Ups*
  • 4 Chops*
  • 5 Plank plus Reach*
  • 6 Back Extensions
  • 7 Bird Dogs*
  • 8 Side Plank with Hip Lift*
  • 9 Toe Reaches
  • 10 Bicycles*
  • 11 Reverse Crunches
  • 12 Hip Bridges

*All of the starred exercises make sure you do the full count for EACH side. We don't want to be lopsided, right? 😉

You can easily adapt this workout to all different kinds of exercises. If you need any modifications to try this yourself, please ask and I'll be happy to help you find movements that work for your current fitness level! This is a great one to be able to do on the go, whether you are staying in a hotel or with family this holiday season. Why not get the whole family involved? Remember, working out is a great stress reliever to help keep you sane during the busy holiday season!

As always, consult your doctor if you have any contraindications before starting a new workout regime. This is intended as workout motivation, not an exercise prescription.

Now that's the 12 days of Core-mas!! Is singing along an option as well? Get those lung exercises in? 😁

Singing is always an option! Though at some point it might turn to wheezing when you really get those abs fired up! 😂

Haha, well hopefully you are feeling well enough again to start back into those Wednesday walks at least. ;) This time of year especially can be a bit of a challenge, but every little bit of movement helps!

Bookmarked! They will be doing a "fusion" of the L5 and L6 vertebrates in my lower spine early next year and in the meantime my stomach has become a bit slack.
So I will be doing some gentle aspects of this workout.

Blessings and may you guys have a great Christmas time!

So nice to see you drop in! I will be sending lots of healing thoughts your way as you undergo your procedure. My mom has C4 and C5 fused after a few compression injuries many years ago. I hope it is a successful surgery that gets you feeling well! A few of these are great gentle ones--especially the bird dogs and hip bridges, but of course always follow doctors orders.

Best wishes to you and yours this season, as well!

Thank you for the kind words here and believe it or not, I regard these things as adventures, as it helps me to cope with it.
I hope that your mom's troubles were over after the fusion, as one hears so many stories.
Maybe you should do some healing exercise videos Lol.
Blessings!
