Donut rapture and coffee

She handed it to me over the counter and my eyes lit up; It was round, doughy and covered in coloured sprinkles. It rested proudly on the plate, covering over half the surface area, and beckoned me with its sugary goodness. I stood shuffling from foot to foot alternatively looking at it and over to the girl making my coffee; Hurry up already, my voice screamed at her, in my head of course, I need to devour this sticky, round, doughy, sprinkled pastry...And I can't do so without coffee!

I sat finally, the sound of the food court around me fading away, unimportant when compared to the temptation sitting before me on the plate. The screaming kids, clanking and scraping of cutlery on plates, slurping of drinks and gnawing on food simply ceased to intrude upon my moment, the moment I'd enter donut rapture.

I wiped sticky icing from the tip of my nose...It had been there since the first bite and now several bites later I felt it was time. A pink sprinkle came off my nose too but I was too enraptured to care what I looked like. Another bite, a sigh of pleasure, borne of the sugary goodness I was consuming, escaped my body and as the sugar coursed through my bloodstream I felt content...Well, I needed a sip of that coffee, but post-sip, I was content.

Several minutes later it was over, except for the finger-licking and lip-smacking to savour the last remnants of sugary goodness. I looked at the plate certain I had forgotten something and my brow wrinkled in thought. What could I possibly have forgotten? And then it hit me...A photo for my blog. I'll admit, my brain instantaneously made the decision to get another, just for photographic purposes of course. But after a titanic battle, good brain versus, bad brain I decided not to. Damn you good brain!

I snapped this picture of the plate and the few sprinkles my pride would not allow me to lick up and moved on with my day vowing to photograph the next thing I ate.

My deepest apology for not having a photograph of my recent donut experience however I'm sure you have a mind creative enough to imagine what it might have looked like. Besides, I'm sure there'll be others...Soon.
