IMPRESSIVE BLACK STICKY RICE

Black sticky rice is rice that is sticky like white sticky rice but the color is deep purple. People in South East Asia use the rice to make some cakes or eat directly as porridge.
The rice is rich with carbohydrates and protein fiber and antioxidants.

NUTRITION OF BLACK STICKY OR GLOUTINOUS RICE

  • Black sticky rice is rich with dietary fiber. Each a quarter of cup black sticky rice has three grams of dietary fiber. It is 9 percent from 15 percent of daily intake. What dietary fiber for? It improves digestion and may help with treating diabetes, heart disease and diverticulitis.

  • Anthocyanin, what is it? It is a flavonoid (a plant-derived polyphenol )that forms color in fruits and grains and vegetables to make blue, purple,and black color. Anthocyanin works as the anti-inflamatory and carcinogenic effects. It is also improve the diabetes symptoms.

  • Black sticky rice contains iron. Iron has function to make blood cell. It prevents from anemia. A quarter cup of black sticky rice is enough for four percents of daily iron needed.

HOW TO CONSUME BLACK STICKY RICE

You can make porridge or add a few grams of black sticky rice and mixed with white rice when you cook the white rice. To make porridge from black sticky rice is not difficult. Take a 125 gram or black sticky rice. Add with 1 litre of water and cook about 30 minutes in a pressure pan. After that add a little sugar if you want to consume the rice. You can also add milk and sugar. That’s tasty porridge. In my country it is called “ Bubur ketan item’. However, people in my country prefer sweet taste so that they add much sugar in the porridge.
