Honda Gives You Wings

Honda on the podium and a one two which has been very rare and could easily have been a clean sweep except for Alex Albon crashing out with one lap to go.

Christian Horner went with his gut and ditched the Renault engines and went back to Honda. Mc Laren ditched Honda and went to Mercedes powered engines instead. I have a hunch that Horner has made the right choice as he has been there and done it before and why Red Bull will be a major force next season. The Honda engine out performed all the other cars at the high altitude in Sao Palo,Brazil and now they need to find the same combination at sea level.

Honda were due to go into discussions this week with Red Bull about the engine and the way forward and they must be over the moon right now. Honda were the top engine a while back but due to the downturn in the car industry they couldn't justify the spend. They would rather keep their staff than support Formula One and handed over the team to Christian Horner for $1 which he gladly accepted.

Fast forward and Honda jumped back into Formula One with a bag of mixed results with the main problem being reliability. Horner knew the capability of Honda and didn't hesitate to ditch Renault and continue his partnership with them. This season the Red Bull car has improved and after one season is now starting to challenge the two main rivals namely Mercedes and Ferrari.

Happy Honda team at the latest Grand Prix in Brazil.

Honda has laid down some strong accusations at the FIA and Ferrari's door over their sudden found extra power. This makes perfect sense why the rule changes are coming into play in 2021. Honda claim there are too many grey areas at the moment and all they want is clarity on what is legal and what isn't. Ferrari after the summer break have dominated the qualifying sessions and have out stripped everyone with top line speed and power. Honda believes that there are three possible fuel flow scenarios that Ferrari are using and that gives suspicion to why the FIA says extra piping is now not allowed to be used for extra fuel storage. A car has to burn fuel at a certain rate and that is governed by fuel flow indicators.

Max on the grid before the race.

I believe they are right as this was highlighted during the week of the American Grand Prix and the power and speed indicators suddenly show a definite drop. The Ferrari hasn't been able to do what it was doing before and it definitely suggests foul play was happening. The FIA should have picked this up after the first race after the break as Ferrari had a huge advantage by doing this.

Tanabe from Honda just wants everyone to play fair and have clearer clarity over the rules.

I was hoping for another team to challenge Mercedes at the top and it looks as though it will be Red Bull and not Ferrari next season. The message that Ferrari sent to every other team is that they can only find performance by being sneaky tells me they have no answers currently.

Red Bull have one driver in max Verstappen who has the talent to become World Champion and then there are a few possible scenarios for his number two driver which will be decided at the end of this season. Torro Ross's Pierre Gasly pictured with Max on the podium may or may not get his seat back currently held by Albon. Gasly was replaced by Albon to see who was the better driver under pressure and Albon has done nothing wrong to lose his place. He was hit on the penultimate lap by Lewis Hamilton otherwise he would have finished second making it a clean sweep for Honda.

Ferrari still looking for positives to hold onto , but for how long as this top spot will disappear shortly.

Red Bull benefit immensely with this partnership as when it comes to budgets they pay a set fee no matter what Honda spend. The rest can be used for developing the car and keeping their huge team together. This could be a grey area other teams challenge them on in the future.

Is it common for them to swap out engines in the middle of the season like that? Do they have contracts with the companies or can they just swap as many times as they want at will? I guess since everything is so standardized to make it fair that shouldn't be a big deal.

They swapped out at the end of last season. Ferrari did the upgrade or cheating over the summer break. Looks like the Honda engineer was right as all of a sudden the extra power has disappeared and Ferrari are the same as before the break again now.
