Weekend Freewrite - 6/27/2020- Single Prompt Option

I’m going to mix it up and cheat a bit. Instead of picking one prompt from @mariannewest’s challenge post (which is here, if you want to take part in the challenge) and freewriting based on the prompt for five minutes, I instead picked five prompts (in bold) from her list and did five one-minute freewrites.

Reggie Pepper lived by the maxim all things in moderation. He never got angry, at most he might be a bit miffed. Never one to be in high dudgeon, a tepid low dudgeon was more his style. That time a made man held a gun to his head and ordered him to drink from one of the three glasses in front of him, Reggie didn’t panic, he drank the one in the middle.

People keep hoping that Covid-19 will subside and we can segue into the new normal, but there won’t be anything normal about it. Unless you’re okay with normal being a cratering economy, social Balkanization, and back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes.

Every time Cynthia did a batch of canning she’d say a little prayer as she lowered the first mason jar into the water. She felt so sorry for their inventor who died in poverty and hoped that her silent prayer of thanks might be heard by him in the afterlife.

“Don’t make a big fuss about it, that horse is already out the barn door.

“Shouldn’t we at least make some effort to contain the situation?”

“You’re placing too much reliance on our ability to control it once it’s started.”

“Let’s at least cover our tracks. The Boss can never know of our part in this fiasco.”

“At last, Captain Obvious. Let’s get started.”

“Would you please not bleed all over the pier. Trust me, my friend the police know how to test for DNA.”

“I’ll rinse it off with water from the bay; the pier should be dry by the time they get here and they won’t even notice.”

“Make it fast but don’t miss a drop. I’ll be damned if I’ll go to the chair because you were stupid enough to cut yourself with the knife you used to kill him.”
