Goodbye fruitcakes! - a #weekendfreewrite

I present you a new shrink-adventure from the 6th floor.

"Yes. She is a friend. Well, she was one until recently...you know how it goes. New life, new friends, no money, no friends."

The all nodded, knew exactly what she meant. It was exactly like that song "... friendship is an illusion.."
One started to sing it and the rest of the group followed. It was not what I would call a Christmas carol but the good spirit was present and the location was different too. It was the first time we spent this holiday together. No one felt the need to celebrate it with family and friends, they all agreed that if they had friends they wouldn't be on the 6th floor in the first place.

We decorated a tree together with what we found and some really been creative. We even had presents. Each of us gave one to a group member. The only rule was you were not allowed to buy it. This way we would not end the year with debts.

"Month by month, your calendar is a vivid reminder of all that ... means to you...", Tom mumbled as he looked over my shoulder.

"Not really. To be honest I only write down what I can or want to forget."

"How does that work?"

"I don't know. I always had that. As soon as it is written down the memory of it disappears. It no longer bothers me."

"You burn it too?"

"After some years... it is my memory... if I don't need it any longer."

"Aren't you getting tired of this?"

He waved at the group in front of us.

"Are you?"

He nodded. It was clear he had had it with Peter,
Lucy, Oliver, Rose, Mary and our newest attraction Salsbury all fruitcakes. They loved seeking kindness and their only need was "attention". The former shrink
never gave it. The only thing he provided in was high bills.
The Shit therapy only helped one of us get out of here.

"You can leave, we all can."

I opened the door and took my coat on.

"Thanks for the Christmas party, the positive vibes and knowing you all. You helped me a lot."

The phone dropped as I walked out of the door.

"Your phone", Peter shouted. I would not miss that guy.

"You can keep it, I don't need it any longer."

As I turned around I saw them staring at me, noticed their confusion but I no longer cared. Enough time I spent here, the bit of life left was for me.

"Come on guys", Tom said, "grab your coats before it is too late."
