GARDEN JOURNAL AUGUST

1566728998001.jpg

August is the hottest month and the flowers and plants outside on the balcony have extra care. Some are moved to shady places to avoid the burning sun rays. Usually I have few pots on the railing. These days it is very, very hot. And no pots are hanging on the railing.

I will start with the lemon and I am happy to see the small lemons growing.

The good thing about it is that it keeps on blooming and new white flowers emerge next to the small fruit.

The sage is always doing well for four-five years or even more. I do not recall how we got it.

_MG_9688.JPG

Now it is put in two separate pots as it is overgrown.

Since last journal in July I got new plants and among them is the basil and chilly peppers.

_MG_9681.JPG

The basil got small leaves and is very well scented. The chilly peppers are very hot, as been told by the vendor. I doubt I am going to eat them. I love spicy food, but to some extent and if these are too hot, i would rather have them just as nice plant.

_MG_9682.JPG

I had before some other chilly peppers that died. And to my surprise seeds have fallen into a pot with flowers and come back to life again.

Here is a glimpse at my wee strawberries. Not bad for the first season considering that I had handful of them. More are about to ripe, but still continue to be small.

Being among my favourite fruit, strawberries will always be in my garden.

Talking about new plants, my hubby bought me two new flowers.
One of them is dipladenia. It is lovely red flower and it makes the look of the hanging pots pretty nice.

As for the second one I don't know its name and I would be happy if anyone can help me to identify it. It has green leaves with light purple on them.

This is a close look at the leaf. Can you recognize it?

Next flower I want to show is verbena. I bought it as small plant and now it was spreading and hanging from the pot. I am not sure if I have to leave it as such or to put a stick in the pot to keep it upright.

The yellow and orange marigold made the balcony look more colourful.

IMG_9646.JPG IMG_9647.JPG

And more colour brings the tiny flax flower. It has short life but each year i keep it as it is pretty. Especially for close-ups.

The garden is growing big and I have start planning where to keep the flowers in winter. It is a new project how to rearrange the rooms to make space for the plants.

So, this is the end of my August Journal, which I submit to the challenge created by @simplymike.

If when it matures it can tell you where you got it from, you will know that yours is a wise old sage!

Thank you for your nice comment.
Yes, it takes time, but it is very pleasant to look after it. My husband is helping me a lot with the garden.

It is a beautiful final for the newspaper in August. Your garden is very beautiful. I imagine, in this month, the smell of basil ... must have been spectacular !! I loved the yellow and orange marigolds (they are two colors that I like very much); Your balcony should have looked like a cheerful sun. I hope you manage to do the project for the protection of plants in winter. You seem like a person who gives a lot of love to plants and that is very nice. Happy day!! @nelinoeva

Thank you very much for your kind words. The smell of basil is fantastic. I forgot to mention the mint because we almost use all of it and now it is coming back to life. I love to rub my fingers on the mint leaf, smell so fresh.😀

Thank you very much for stopping by.
Indeed it is much better with some colourful flowers in the garden. Once we had only herbs, but after that the flowers brought more joy.

My husband would love that chili plant. He would be so happy if the seeds would just plant new plants without doing anything :) We do not have garden so we keep buying our produce but it would be so lovely to grow it ourselves.

You have some beautiful plants. They are so pretty and colorful. It must be great pleasure to see them grow.

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!

I must admit that before, when I was younger, I did not think about growing plants. I was not interested at all. .But now I am. And I am happy to see the balcony covered with greens and coloured flowers.
My husband helps me a lot and recently he proudly counted 24 different plants on the balcony.

24 different plants on the balcony!? Well done girl! WOW!

I was forced to go to the field and work hard when I was a child. We had large fields with lots of potatoes and different veggies and we didn't have any machines so all was done manually and I must admit that I hated that. I hated that so much that I was avoiding it for the biggest part of my life. But now I wish I knew better :)

Now you remind me how I was forced to go to the fields too. It was compulsory in our schools long time ago to help the farmers and I was always picking grapes in the vineyards. It was not pleasant, I must say and I never liked it. I never liked to go to the plot where my parents were growing some veggies and ftuit. Now I have different view. It is stress relieving working with plants. And also a great way to learn to become better photographer.

Such a lovely variety in colour and species in your beautiful garden @nelinoeva :) I love the little strawberries, verbena, marigold and tiny flax. I can imagine how refreshing it is to be in your garden :) The chilis are looking very happy. Are they the really spicy birds eye chillis?

Right now we have hot and dry summer. Autumn usually is nice and warm but the winter could be very, very cold.
