Woman in history-Mary of Guise(22 November 1515-11 June 1560)

Mary of Guise was born in Duchy of Bar in Holy Roman empire. She was married twice: 1)Louis II d'Orléans, Duke of Longueville(married 1534 until his death in 1537);
2)James V of Scotland(married 1538 until his death in 1542)-for him she gave birth daughter Mary Queen of Scots(1542-1587). (James V of Scotland portrait is bellow)

After of his death he left his daughter as his heir. Henry VIII of England wanted that his and Jane Seymor son and Mary Queen of Scots get married. Mary of Guise disagreed and soon arranged for the daughter to be crowned. Henry VIII angered-gathering the army invaded Scotland and looted houses and churches.

Mary of Guise to ensure the safety of the daughter asked for help from King Henry II of France. he offered military support in exchange for the marriage of a son, a future king, to her daughter. Mary of Guise agreed and in 1547 being just five Mary Queen of Scots was brought to France.

While her daughter lived in France, she ruled Scotland as a regent from 1554 until until she died of a disease called 'dropsy' mostly known as 'Edema' in 1560
