Spider | Cosmophasis Umbratica and Tetragnatha Montana

Today I went to the bush in the village of Paya Leupah, Simpang Keuramat, Aceh Utara, Indonesia. I found two species of spiders, the first is the jumping spider (cosmophasis umbratica) and the second is the tetragnatha montana spider.

Cosmophasis umbratica is a species of jumping spider found in South and Southeast Asia. These spiders are known for their brilliant, shiny ultraviolet light. They are members of the family Salticidae and the genus Cosmophasis. They are commonly spotted on green vegetation. C. umbratica shows extreme dimorphism when viewed under UV light: males reflect UV on all body parts that are displayed during intraspecific interaction, while females and juveniles do not reflect UV at all. It seems that C. umbratica uses this in sexual signaling. A similar phenomenon is found in some butterflies. For example, several species of Colias and Gonepteryx, both of the family Pieridae, also display sexual signaling.

There is something interesting for me when I find a spider (cosmophasis umbratica), because he is eating his catch, which is a fly. Anyway, a spider doesn't always have to make a nest to wait for its prey. Jumping spiders are often seen preying on the outside of the spider's nest. This shows that this type of spider does not wait for its prey to be trapped first, but they are looking for prey.

Tetragnatha montana, commonly known as the silver stretch spider, is a species of long-jawed orb weaver from the family Tetragnathidae that has a Palearctic distribution. It preys mostly on flies and mosquitoes. The name silver stretch spider refers to its shiny metallic colour and its habit of extending its legs into a stick like shape.
