Dennis Nicolaas Maria Bergkamp was born on May 10, 1969 in Amsterdam (Netherlands).

Bergkamp is the younger brother of 4 brothers.

During his childhood he always showed great skill with the ball.

At the age of 11, Bergkamp joined the youth team of Ajax.
Bergkamp did all his training at Ajax.

In 1986, aged 17, Bergkamp made his debut in the Ajax main team.

In his 1st season as a professional he was an alternate. This season Ajax took 2nd place in the Dutch league but won the Cup Winners' Cup and the Beker Cup.
Bergkamp this season played 23 games and scored 2 goals.

In the 1987/88 season, Ajax did not win any title, having been 2nd in all competitions they participated.
Bergkamp this season has had more opportunities having played 35 games and scored 6 goals.

In the 1988/89 season, Ajax won no title again.

Due to the excellent season in Bergkamp he won for the 1st time the individual award for best Dutch player.

In the 1991/1992 season, Ajax and Bergkamp won the UEFA Cup, a European title, but failed to win the Dutch champion title by finishing in 2nd place.

Bergkamp was again the league's top scorer with 25 goals.

In total Bergkamp played 44 games and scored 29 goals.
At the end of this season Bergkamp participated in Euro 92 where the Netherlands reached the semi-finals losing on penalties against Denmark.

All the excellent performances shown during the season made Bergkamp win for the 2nd time the individual award for best Dutch player.

In the 1992/93 season, Bergkamp won the Beker Cup and even with Ajax finishing the championship in 2nd place, he finished as the league's top scorer with 26 goals.

In total this season Bergkamp has played 40 games and scored 33 goals.

These exhibitions made big European clubs interested in Bergkamp.

He would eventually transfer to Inter Milan for 7 million euros.

For Ajax, Bergkamp played 240 games, scored 121 goals and won 5 titles.

In the 1993/1994 season, his first season with Inter, Bergkamp and Inter won the UEFA Cup, although in the league he finished 13th.

He was also voted the 3rd best player in the world by FIFA.

At the end of the season Bergkamp represented the Netherlands at the 94 World Cup where he played at a great level. However, the Netherlands were eliminated in the semi-finals by Brazil.

In the 1994/1995 season, it was a bad season for Bergkamp, because in addition to Inter not winning any title he started to suffer injuries and the Italian press and Inter fans started to doubt Bergkamp.
This season Bergkamp has only played 26 games and only scored 4 goals.

All of this led him to want to leave the club.
He would eventually be transferred to Arsenal who paid 7.5 million euros.

For Inter, Bergkamp played 81 games, scored 29 goals and won 1 title.

Bergkamp's signing brought great hope to Arsenal as the club was now in complete decline.

In the 1995/96 season, Bergkamp was adapting to the English league. Arsenal ended the season without titles and in 5th place in the championship.
This season Bergkamp played 41 games and scored 16 goals.

At the end of the season Bergkamp played the 1996 Euro for the Netherlands but they ended up being eliminated prematurely in the round of 16 against France.

In the 1996/97 season, Arsenal hired Arsène Wegner as coach and he ended up making tactical changes that would make Bergkamp the main player in the team. This led to Arsenal getting a 3rd place in the championship having been the best classification since the last title of the 1990/91 season.
Bergkamp participated in 22 games, scored 14 goals and was voted the 3rd best player in the world by FIFA.

The 1997/98 season was a great season where Bergkamp with Arsenal won the English league and the FA Cup.

This season Bergkamp played 44 games and scored 22 goals.

At the end of the season Bergkamp participated in the World Cup in 98 where he had excellent performances reaching the semi-finals where he would be eliminated on penalties against Brazil.

In the 1998/99 season, despite not winning the English champion title, he would eventually win the FA Community Shield.

In the 1999/2000 season, he failed to win the championship again, having finished in 2nd place and lost the UEFA Cup final. It won the FA Community Shield.
