The Premier league is a lot different looking this year!!!

This time last year we were looking at one team dominating the premier league. Even at this early stage in the season we could see Liverpool were going to be near impossible to stop and in the end that's how it turned out.

37 points and 0 losses after the first 13 games and you could sense that there was something different about this year. It wasn't going to be another near miss. They were winning in style and had the fear factor to play against. An 8 point lead at this early stage proved crucial as they continued to stretch it out over the course of the season.

With Leicester leading the chasing pack and City then Chelsea making up the top four it was a fairly standard table at this point.

Now looking at this year we are in a totally different position with the top ten.

Spurs are leading the pack (just about), from Liverpool on goal difference but with just 6 points separating the top 11 teams. A far cry from last year where Liverpool held a bigger gap to second place.

If the table holds until tomorrow, United could join them up there with two games in hand on the rest and six points behind. In a year where anything could happen and Liverpool walked to the title. Could we see Spurs break their duck? United restored to glory? Chelsea buy some success?

The great thing is that we just don't know. Where we knew from a long way out last season where the title would end up, this year we can enjoy a proper battle with fatigue, injuries and covid throwing up a strange mix of results. that will keep the excitement going until the last day.

That is why we watch sports. People don't enjoy one sided games and don't want to know the results in advance. We watch for the surprise, the tension and the emotions that each game brings out. It should be great to watch over the xmas period as the big teams all try to take control of the table going into the second half of the season.
