Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose
No doubt, nowadays, more people are aware of loving the Mother Earth, because by loving it, in turns you are saving the whole mankind. One of my friends is actively participating in campaigns and projects on Zero Waste, so he is promoting zero use of plastic, and always, always remember the majestic R — Reduce, Reuse & Recycle.
By reading his post on socila media, I was influenced as well, for the good cause, why not. So I have been a 'hoarder' on egg cartons, boxes of various types be it packaging or cereal boxes, even bottles and cans. Geee... My storeroom is packed of those now, because they are really very useful for homeschool materials.
Let's just talk on one usage for this post.
Using used cereal box for educational purpose, play & puzzles.
The boys called it the classic play puzzles.
I was actually kind of surprised that the eldest loved it too. I prepared it for the youngest but he joined in saying it was so fun compared to the usual puzzles. And with no extra cost, just a little bit of drawing and cuttting.
At first, we used it as robot head for the little one. No photo as we were happily playing hiding from the robot, I just could not think of capturing photo. The mask or head looked like this. The two cut squares were for the eyes, so that Jansen could see us while acting as robot to catch us. So much fun!
After playing this game, I figured it was time to relearn recognising small letter 'b' and 'd', he just could not figure it out and always confused the two. People say it was normal for left-handed?
I used the box and cut it into required square and drew the letter 'b' and 'd', cut it into four pieces to form a puzzle. And let him solve the puzzle. Of course, before that, I showed hin again which was 'b' like Baymax Belly and 'd' like Donald Duck bum, I simply used whatever he could relate with. Haha.
It took him awhile with the help of big brother to finish the 'b' and 'd' puzzle. Yayy!!! I let him focus on one at a time, and this way he could recognise the letter easier.
More puzzles
We moved on the more puzzles as the big brother said "Somemore please and I also want to play!"
4-piece Donald Duck for the youngest
He finished it in within one minute
9-piece Donald Duck for the eldest
Solving the puzzle
Took abit more time on one section then tada!!! Done!!!
Challenge Mummy time
The eldest wanted to challenge with a puzzle drawn and made by him. He used the thicker cardbox for this purpose.
His own monster creation
He didn't let me see how it looked like in the beginning as it was a challenge for me. I could solve it in no time. Haha. Because I am his mummy!!! Of course I could visualise what was his drawing even without looking at it prior.
Repurpose
I kept all the square-cut boxes and will use it next time for other homeschooling purposes. I actually have more than what shown in the photo below, in a container.
What do you think about reusing and repurposing cereal boxes?
Ah, homeschooling is so hard. Mine one is just 3 but I'm seeing my elder sister struggling with my nephew and niece.
You are doing great. Sending love for your kids!
Have to place lesser expectation on self and the children then homeschooling is more fun. I kept telling myself he will get there, he will get there. And reminding myself not to compare with others. Your son is 3 years old, let him play alot alot first. ❤️
Oh, he plays all day. He is so restless. I wish I could make him sit for at least 15 minutes with a pen and paper!
You are doing great!
Awesome work, congrats!
Thank you @innerblocks and @deepu7 for curation. :)
You are welcome.
Some awesome ideas!
A teacher once told me that most children get a bit mixed up with "b" and "d". I know both of my girls did, but my eldest was quicker to figure it out than my youngest. I think "p" and "q" can be confusing too.
My eldest also was quicker to figure out to. I haven't reached 'p' and 'q' and had giggled thinking about it. Imagine I give him all the b, d, p and q puzzles to figure out. Haha. Thank you for dropping by.
