Hive Top Chef! | Dough - Pull-Apart Spicy Raisin Monkey Bread
Seeing the theme Dough for this week's challenge, brought many images to mind, like...
- Colourful Play Dough that we used to play with as kids.
- Dough as what the finance gurus play with, as I do as well when I have a little extra Dough.
- Doughnuts as we spell it or Donuts as spelt, (our spelling again and I'm not talking spelt flour here)...or spelled by my American friends.
I've been craving these for quite a while now, and nearly ended up making it for this challenge, but I resisted and made...
Pull-Apart Spicy Raisin Monkey Bread
What kind of Dough is this?
Cinnamon Sugar coated little triangles of a spicy brown yeast dough filled with Raisins roughly placed in a ring pan, or a Bundt pan as called by my German and Austrian friends.
Interesting to learn that the term Bundt is derived from the German word Bundkuchen which means Gathering Cake.
Monkey bread certainly does this, as one would sit around for morning coffee and tear off crispy cinnamon-sugar coated pieces of soft bread, quite a social affair!
The Recipe
- 4 cups Cake Flour
- 1 cup Wholemeal Flour
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 - 1 tsp Mixed Spice
- 3/4 cup Raisins & Sultanas
- 1 sachet Instant yeast
- 500 ml Lukewarm Milk
- 50 gram melted Butter
- Approx 3/4 cup Sugar Cinnamon mix for coating dough triangles
Mix dry ingredients except yeast which is placed in a hollow in centre of dry ingredients.
Pour milk & butter onto yeast and knead till smooth and elastic.
Cover and leave to proof in a warm place.
Knock down dough once it's doubled in size, flatten into a rectangle and cut into squares, then cut each square in half to form triangles.
Roll each piece of raw dough in Sugar Cinnamon mixture
Loosely place pieces of dough into well-sprayed Bundt pan & bake approx 40 min at 180°C or till dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Note: I had enough dough leftover to make a small loaf of plain Raisin bread for hubby who is a type 1 diabetic; that cinnamon sugar coated monkey bread is like poison to him unless he has a sugar low.
A tip from @silversaver888 to soften the crust of bread dough is to brush butter on crust of hot bread; also bring the golden colour of the little loaf of raisin bread out, so a big thank you for that tip!
All we need now is a couple of friends to join us for a cup of coffee and this Monkey Bread will be gone in no time at all!
This has been my contribution towards the exciting weekly @qurator foodie contest,

Demasiado bueno, ese pan con canela me encanta. Gracias amiga
Yum! Just right for coffee in the afternoon, or breakfast if you want some sweets!
I wish I could bake as much as you do!
The disadvantage of living alone...
You could make a killing selling your pastries and other awesome things that you make. I have a co worker selling cakes out of her apartment on the side and you do better stuff.
This looks so fun and reminds me of how I loved the cinnamon buns my dad used to bring me. I can just smell this through the screen.
