Love and Sexuality Podcast #3- Pansexuality from the African Perspective!

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Here, I and a newbie (@buzzalvin) talked about Pansexuality and how most Africans react to people that identify as Pansexual due on their cultural belief and the fact that every other sexuality preference apart from being straight is often considered invalid and an abomination. How parents react to their children based on their sexuality was also considered.

See you on the next one

African parents needs to be educated on the concepts of sex education. That way, it will be easier to prepare mentally when the children come up with different sexual identity.

The world is changing daily hence people need to understand that our sexuality is hormones dependent and that cultural values shouldn't stop us from expressing ourselves.

That's right. Our hormones play a larger role and decided how we act and what we do. It just can't be controlled.

People that identify as Pansexual are often given a negative reaction in the African society due to our beliefs and cultural values.

Those beliefs are sometimes one sided and doesn't allow one to see the greater picture which is- the world is changed.

From my own point of view, i believe that before you declare or act your own sexual beliefs, you should think about your environment. We often say that African's are critics but we forget that Africa has it's own culture and societal beliefs which ought to be respected.
Let's also remember the saying 'When you are in Rome, behave like the Romans' because that is the honest truth.
If a community or law is against something for example, doing such would be breaking the law.

Just my honest opinion and I believe that we are all have our opinion.

Your opinion is very valid. Certain things are not accepted in the African society due to their cultural values and beliefs. Hence whoever identifies as Pansexual will always be criticized and considered the black sheep since it is against their culture.

The only sexually attraction parent I Africa are looking for in their kids are the one of the opposite sex, I don't think it proper to be attracted to same sex, that's just my own opinion

Which is why African parents will always react negatively once their child seems to dive away from the expected norm provided by cultural beliefs.

You can't exactly blame them for reacting as such, it's simply strange to them.

As an African, you're expected to behave a certain way based on our cultural values. Therefore, who ever identifies should not be surprised by the reaction He/She would receives from the African society.

And that's exactly where the problem comes from.

Thanks for your contribution.

I have heard about a country that legalized gay, straight is normal as well but being pansexual sounds odd. Having an interest in both sexes is very unusual.

Pansexuality actually classifies under bisexuality except that is is a wider scope. If being gay can be allowed then why can't other gender identities be allowed as well. Isn't that being bias?

My personal opinion is that from statistic point the alternative groups are so small that it doesn't make sense to make an issue about it. Acceptance should be a key and we as mortals can't undo what the Boss programmed.

You're absolutely correct. We can't do anything about hormones as they can't be undone. Only acceptance will make things better.
