Knowing Madrid: a walk along the Gran Vía

P1370230_copia.jpg

The world and its infinite mysteries, one of the essential parts of which is discovered precisely by entering the unavoidable twists and turns of big cities.

P1370232_copia.jpg

Madrid, like any other great capital in the world, is a city that must be savored with patience, with much, infinite patience.

P1370235_copia.jpg

Or as we would say those who have been walking its streets all their lives: without haste, my friend, but without pause.

P1370237_copia.jpg

Above all, if we intend that our visit begins far from the suburbs and other marginalities subject to the subjective laws of urban development.

P1370240_copia.jpg

So, I invite you to take a little visual walk through that vital artery, through that small universe of greatness and misery, of light and shadow, of failures and illusions, which is its main artery, known as the Gran Vía.

P1370241_copia.jpg

The Gran Vía, metaphorically speaking and compared, would become like the Los Angeles Walk of Fame,

P1370242_copia.jpg

The fashionable place, the one where that happy time was particularly relevant, that one of you may remember, which was called the Movida Madrileña, where the show, the party, the vindication, the waste and the Culture reached the highest levels of the success and tradition.

Certainly: in Spain, in the same way as in other European countries, during the mid / late 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, a retrospective look towards the past flourished, as far as Architecture is concerned, that is why there are many elements called neo-romanesque, neo-gothic and a style, arguably intermediate between the two, which is the modernist, style to which they belong, basically almost all the period buildings seen in these photographs. Architecture in the world is a fascinating subject and a way to get to know other ways of thinking, to understand Art and Beauty. Very grateful for your kind comment. An affectionate greeting from Madrid.

My pleasure! and yes... we get the same kind of thing here with the traditional Cape Dutch - it is always wonderful to see both the original architecture completely untouched and then the restorations that add a modern spin whilst retaining the authenticity!

Certainly, there are occasions when two styles, which are supposed to be temporary abysses away, can generate something different without losing their original appeal. For example, apart from feeling a very special fascination for Architecture in general, I have always been fascinated by these architectural models from Northern Europe. Models, which were later imported to other continents and gave rise, likewise, to suggestive connections with traditional architectures.
