Fails of the Urban Explorer: A Quartet of Failures V
It’s time for a few more fails as my folders are getting more stacked with them.
Some of these are far from where I live and so it is unlikely I will give them another go in the future.
St Raphael’s Church
St Raphael’s Church is frustrating and should not have been a fail. It was earmarked as our first location in early July, and for some reason, neither of us could be arsed to do a little climbing.
Was it too early, we hadn't drunk enough coffee or was pure bone idleness getting in the way?
All the hallmarks of previous explorers were there, including climbing materials designed to injure you if used improperly.
Some of these new-fangled explorers have started leaving stickers and one was attached to this plastic drainpipe.
What do I feel about these sticker things? I feel they are a little dumb myself. Leave footprints I say, not stickers.
Just a week ago, we went back to St Raphael’s Church armed with ladders. It was so easy to get to the access point, but now it was sealed.
This is what you get for fucking around and procrastinating.
First Dental
An abandoned dentist is a little different and I had seen images of teeth (not surprising!) and teeth moulds inside from previous reports.
By the time we got there, we saw brand new seals and some twat from a nearby pub was staring with 'that look', possibly with the intent of marching over to give us a hard time.
From what we could see the place had just been sold and the interiors could have been stripped. We still await our first 'Dentist's Success.'
The Queens Arms
There are so many pubs named ‘The Queens Arms’, and here we are at yet another one. This was not planned as @dizzydiscovery told me to slam on the brakes.
It was quite obvious this pub was not in use with the plastering falling off in chunks as well as it being graffiti-laden.
Unfortunately, it was also quite well sealed apart from one corner with some anti-climbing fencing that was a little mangled.
We did consider jumping over this on to those unstable bricks and maybe have that wall fall on us. It was a poor idea forcing us to look at the facts.
We would be in plain sight of everyone as the pub is smack bang in the middle of a traffic island, and what was within that gloom of blackness? Maybe another sealed door.
Hudson Bay Nightclub
After hearing this old place is a drug den and full of used needles, I added it to our hit list.
While parking up we noticed a lot of cops around. What was going on?
The looked at us suspiciously, the way cops do but that was all. We could hardly go sniffing around the entrance of Hudson Bay while they were hanging around?
Some wondering bloke asked @dizzydiscovery if he had a fag to spare. He got quickly brushed off and left in the direction of the swarms of cops.
The next minute the cops are going crazy, sirens going, lots of scuffling and so we poked our heads around the corner.
FagBorrower is being arrested, cuffed, and placed in the back of a large black van while screaming and wailing his innocence.
This is all good and interesting but we wanted to get into Hudson Bay Nightclub.
They didn’t and loitered around for longer than we wanted to wait. The access point was quite obvious and required a little more athleticism than we both had left in the tank.
The Moral: Never ask a stranger for a fag, as it increases your chances of being arrested. That's a cigarette in the UK.
It was getting late; it had been a hard days Urbexing.

Bumming a fag can mean different things depending on where you come from.
Must piss you off to miss out on another crack den ;)
At least you are doing a fine job of documenting these ruins. Hope other expeditions are more fruitful.
Another crack den gone and lost. I can't climb up there, you can see what we have to deal with, not so young anymore!
Why they grabbed that bloke I don't know. They weren't half giving us some looks... and how many to arrest one dude?
Maybe this guy was more dangerous than he looked and you look a bit shifty too. You don't want to get too much attention from the fuzz.
He asked dizzy for the ciggy, not me!
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍

Shame on the nightclub it looked promising. Question for ya. Have you ever gone into a place thats said to be haunted.
I ask because i grew up in a certified haunted house in the Hollywood hills. After spending years in such a place theres a certain essence that stays with you forever and you can sense that you are in another haunted place. Its not psychic crap just that theres a signature you can feel. A friend of mine used to be a real estate agent and would take me to interesting homes that were on the market. I could always tell if there was something off about the place and turn to my friend and ask "has somebody died here?" And more often than not hed reply. "Yes how did you know?"
I tend to look at the history after I have visited places. I have been into Mills were there have been verified suicides. One had a couple of them, in the last 5 years. They are a great place to kill yourself I suppose.
It’s certainly grim ooop north, but at least it’s a nice sunny day.
Your fuel bill must be astronomical!
These were from different weekends, we tend to focus on an area.. you know the deal!
👍
That first one looks like it could have been pretty cool had you been able to get in. I guess all of the fails really make the successful ones special right? Awesome photos!
Fails suck to be honest. They should be expected but one can never guess which is which before a visit. It's all so.. unpredictable.
I used to go to an occasional meeting in a place in Seattle that had been a rather large dentists office. When the new tenant took over they decided it would be a good idea to leave the two sets of false teeth that had been painted on the picture windows. For atmosphere, don't you know.
I wouldn't trust that corner of the Queen's Arms with your life, let alone mine.
That last one would have been an interesting look see if only to see the views from the top. Interesting building. I'm never too interested in seeing a dope/flop house. They seem typically depressing and foul smelling...
I see needles and evidence of the homeless all the time, but have yet to meet any of the latter. I know others have and they are generally scared you are there to bust them.
Well done my friend, please I would like to take part in this community you created which is the Urban e Exploration but I will I go about it. I reside in Abuja. Nigeria 🇳🇬. Thanks so much. @slobberchops
Feel free to do any Urbex post and add it to the community.
I just took up the invite to join coinbase. It seems to be quite the deal.
