Steemfest4 musings 2: Shoot, I forgot to shoot some photos! Days 2-5

(For some reason I wasn't able to recover this post from its original url on the Hive blockchain, so I copypasted and recreated it anew from the copy in the Steemit blockchain.)

Ahum...

Here are a few photos I left out from the previous post:

(My phone has a great camera, yes? 🤔)

On the third day we went to the Grand Postal Building to see talks and eat tasty snacks.

Another smartphone photo. 😜

Then I completely missed some photo opportunities, starting from the get go.😓

Also, my photos from the 3rd day evening, Steemy Night, were all disasters. I think there were just 2 photos that get my two-star rating. (I rate my photos. I don't publish if I give just one star.)

I didn't see the cat before long into the edit.

Sometimes when you take photos, you don't even realize what you are shooting at. (My eysight isn't too good, even with glasses on, as my eyeglasses are already pretty old and worn out and scratched.)

My camera is still bad for low-light shots.

Yelo House

Leo and I got lost on the way to the Yelo House, and we found ourselves in the slums. (I didn't even try taking any photos there, since we already looked like rich tourists.)

Gladly we found our way there, and got to taste some of @RoelandP's pancakes and see the Inktober exhibition.

Although, I found someone to play Go with.

Group photo courtesy @varunpinto, check out his amazing Steemfest photos, pls!

I lost the game, and I don't even know who it was, other than that he was Korean. I supposed he might have been a Steemian, but the photo @varunpinto took does seem to suggest otherwise.

(Anyhow, I want to thank him again for the great game.)

I wonder who shot this photo, all I know @buzz.lightyear sent it to my phone.

@joannewong wanted to take our picture for me with my camera. I quickly switched it from manual mode to automatic, and gave the camera to her...

It seems my camera actually refused to co-operate, but she had a lot of patience:

Eventually (after 16 tries), we got the camera set up to a point she could take a decent enough photo for me to edit. My camera seems to have problems choosing which focusing point to use at any given moment. (Newer cameras recognize faces and stuff, but not mine. Such an old piece of...)

s5pth4.jpg

It's a weird thing, because when I shoot with it, I rarely get these kinds of problems. Although I very rarely shoot portraits because I don't tend to have the patience, and I guess it (or the lack of it) would eventually transfer to my subjects.

Anyhow, here's one I shot in between of those 16 trials when we tried to figure out what's wrong with my camera.

A somewhat decent photo of Leo. (Even I had to work it out a bit.)

We had so much fun at the festival, tasting and seeing all sorts of foods. I'll have to get Leo (and myself) to taste those centennial eggs some day. :) We also exchanged some contact details with @buzz.lightyear, who had gotten interested in my Winter scenery photographs and wanted to help me find a suitable place for them. I'm interested to see what happens next.

"Gossip"

Alas, I really wanted the next photo to work, but I didn't have my extra flash with me, of all the days I had decided not to carry it around. Even the Sigma lens I used gave up trying to focus in that low light.

But I still wonder if somehow I could have made it work. It's a portrait after all. And my camera just hates portraits.

I'm glad he was so patient.

I on the other hand wasn't very patient and now I feel rather disappointed because I let my new friend down by not being able to deliver this shot. I sadly have to submit this heavily retouched one instead.

Then we went for some beers...

poalao.jpg

While I was downing a pint, I taught some basics of photography to my son Leo (@daabi2006).

I really hope he would soon upload some of those photos he took to Steem so we could finally see them.

We took a tuktuk back to our hotel...

The tuktuk driver insisted we take photos of everything, and he even stopped a few times to let us take photos of different landmarks along our route.

The Democracy Monument.

On Day #5 we were on a "DIY citytrip" sightseeing trip in Chinatown with @kaminchan. I will post about that in a separate post.

And on the last day of Steemfest 4, there was the Ending Cruise.

Eh, but the dance was beautiful nevertheless. I didn't even notice the hands before I went into edit.

The Temple of Dawn at night.

Before docking we heard some classy Bohemian Rhapsody sang by our friends.

It was fun.

In the dark, when the cruise was over, we bid our quiet goodbyes at the buses that were taking the other guests to the Prince Palace hotel for ending drinks with @RoelandP, and took a taxi to our new hotel, the Ibis Bangkok Sathorn.

While the Steemfest for us was now over, our adventures in Bangkok though, were far from over yet.

See you later with another post! 👍

P.s. I edited this post, it seemed I had forgotten to tell anything about the visit to the Yelo House. Yeah, too long post... Let's hope the next one isn't this lengthy

I wonder. Due to the pandemia it may be difficult to organize.

Hivefest #1... sounds like a meeting worth attending though.
