My secret fishy spaghetti recipe

(Edited)

That wasn't a click bait. There's nothing suspicious about my spaghetti dish, it really is very fishy. If you like fish, you'll probably like this a lot. This is one of my favourite recipes, my go to when I have nothing in my fridge, as I nearly always have these ingredients in my larder.

THE INGREDIENTS

The ingredients to this dish are pretty simple, and there's very little prep required. This is a spaghetti dish, of course there will be spaghetti.

The fishy part comes form anchovies and cod roe. I use tinned ones, one of each. No prep required.

Then I have some shallots and half a clove of garlic that I've chopped finely. This is the hardest part of preparing the whole dish to be honest. These little shallots make my eyes water, that's why I only used four! You can use more if you like.

THE PROCESS

Cooking this dish is really easy, it just takes five steps.

  1. Cook the spaghetti as per the pack instructions. If the pasta is cooked before you need them, just switch off the heat and keep them in the saucepan.

  2. Saute the garlic and shallots in some oil till they're soft. Keep it on low heat so they don't burn

3. Add the anchovies. Mine are in olive oil so I tipped everything in and it started to bubble bringing out the aroma. Note how my shallots and garlic are burnt a little as I took my eyes off them for just a few seconds to take photos. 4. When the anchovies have melted, add in the cod roe. They'll gradually disintegrate as well to become a rich fishy sauce.

5.Drain the pasta and tip it in the sauce. Mix well and season with salt and pepper as required.

And that's how easy it is, my 5 step fishy spaghetti. I had a bottle of Cornish bitter with spaghetti, and surprisingly it paired really really well. The bitter intensified the fishy taste, and it actually tasted a bit like salmon spaghetti! It was very nice!

That is a good recipe and I have to say thank you for it as I've never thought of pairing spaghetti with fish. Now I know what to do next time. I have all the ingredients in my storage room, so nothing is stopping me now 😁 🍝

Two tins of fishes definitely help to reduce preparation time. If we get fresh ones, there would be more work.

Tins are great for emergency or when you run out of food, plus like you say, no prep at all😃

I am sure this tasted good. It wasn't until recently that I discovered you could add fish in pasta. I don't think PH has canned anchovies and cod roe. SO I guess that is why here in the PH, my sister made one with sardines. Who would have thought that pasta and fish go surprisingly well.
