Taiwan's mud spa and the good man 台灣關子嶺溫泉區的好漢坡

Guanziling is located in Tainan and is one of the four famous spa areas in Taiwan. It's well known for its natural mud spa, said to be available in only Italy, Japan and Taiwan in the world.

The area was developed in 1920 as a spa area by the Japanese when they colonized Taiwan, and they sent their wounded troops here to recuperate. As part of their treatment and road to recovery, the soldiers had to run up and down a steep staircase that consisted of 293 steps (not 299 as I mentioned in my video). Those who completed this gruelling exercise was known as a good man, hence the name of the staircase Haohanpo, which literally translates to good man slope. The staircase was later shortened to 234 steps when they had to build the road at the bottom of the staircase.

I walked down Haohanp when I visited, and I can tell you, it was a bit more tiring than I expected! Check out my video to see how I did. Luckily I didn't have to walk back up as I walked around the area to one of the spa sources and took an alternative less strenuous route back. You can see the spa source at the beginning of the video which shows the temperature of the spa water. Apparently the water can be 10 degrees above that shown, which is HOT!!! Hope you enjoy the video.

Lol... I can see the funny reasoning of making men really tired so that they cease to think about evil deeds. I want to recommend men to go for Annapurna Base Camp trek. There is a section known as the Chommrong Village. I promise anyone will become a super good man after climbing 4000 stone steps.🤣

Ha ha!! You're the second person who's mention why they need to tire out the wounded 😆

The Annapurna Base Camp trek looks like a tough one, even for fit and healthy, for me even the thought of 4000 steps makes me jelly legs 😅

I think I can go up that staircase but it will probably take me 2 hours or so to get to the top as I will have to take a 5 minute rest every after 10 steps. Even the descent looks very tiring and dangerous. One slip and boom. Ankle or leg or worse, spine can be fractured. But glad you came out okay.v Stay safe.

Yes, sometimes coming down is more tiring than going up because you put so much pressure on your knees and it might give away. Definitely good exercise for training.
