Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

This is Week 147 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge, and the theme for the week is “Grateful Heart”!

My immediate thought was a song “Great Heart”, a song by legendary South African musician Johnny Clegg and Savuka. I have played several songs by Johnny Clegg in the past, but the lyrics didn’t feel like it matched the theme well enough.

So, another one of of my absolute favourite artists to listen to (with my mom), and cover, is Van Morrison. I did a beautiful song of his off the album “Avalon Sunset” just two weeks ago when the theme was “Glory”. There is another song off that album with lyrics like “You fill my heart with gladness, take away my sadness” that really seemed to fit “Grateful Heart” perfectly! I am talking about the song “Have I Told You Lately”, which was famously covered by Rod Stewart, and is often wrongly accredited to him… It has become a much-loved romantic ballad, but according to the Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_I_Told_You_Lately), Van Morrison may have originally intended the song to be more of a prayer to God. Either way it is a stunning song that fits this week’s theme! Here is the original song:

Here’s Rod Stewart’s very famous version that you might be more familiar with?

By the way, I am doing a weekly post on Thursdays where I ask for cover song requests in the comments, and then if I attempt your song in the following week's post, you become a beneficiary to 50% of the post's rewards in HP! Please be sure to check those out and think of song requests for me?

Lyrics for “Have I Told You Lately” by Van Morrison

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

Oh the morning sun in all its glory
Greets the day with hope and comfort too
And you fill my life with laughter
You can make it better
Ease my troubles that's what you do

There's a love that's divine
And it's yours and it's mine
Like the sun at the end of the day
We should give thanks and pray to the One

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

There's a love that's divine
And it's yours and it's mine
And it shines like the sun
At the end of the day we will give thanks
And pray to the One

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

Take away my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles that's what you do
Fill my life with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles that's what you do.

Letra de "Have I Told You Lately" de Van Morrison

¿Te he dicho últimamente que te amo?

¿Te he dicho últimamente que te amo?

¿Te he dicho últimamente que te amo?

Oh my! I love this song already, it feels like I've known it before but I'm very sure I haven't haha.

You sang a good cover of it, the others you shared are cool but yours is cooler 😊

I like that line though "Have I told you lately?" it's sweet on its own lol

Nice choice of song, thanks for blessing us with it... Nice voice!!!

Is that your cat or dog? I couldn't get it's face clearly 😅

Thank you so much!

It is a very fluffy small (for the breed) female "ragdoll" cat that we call "Bunny" (which really confuses the vets who think they're about to see a rabbit instead of a cat! Hahaha!)

She has a brown, more-velvety "boyfriend cat" that we call "Mr Pickles"!

I have posted about them a few times if you want to have a closer look? Check out:

Excellent version of this song, Rod Stewart came to sound a lot in Venezuela, pleasant memories of when I was a child.
