The summer is here and so also the birds: Various feathered friends visiting the garden
The summer is here. I can feel it on my skin, I can see how alive the garden is, and most of our feathered friends have returned to the garden! Today and the last couple of days, except for some much-needed rain, have been splendid and felt really warm. The streets are filled with the chirping and calls of various birds, the flowers are blooming and the fruits are starting to form on the trees. Some of the bird friends have found some of the berries that have already started to ripen. I think this is a female Cape robin-chat, but I am not 100% sure. She looks like the male cape robin-chat, but without the color of the male. In any case, she enjoyed some berries before she flew to the higher trees. Before she flew away, I caught her again further down in the garden.
I also caught the female Cape Weaver early the morning busy scouting for food or something. We don't have them often in the garden, as there are a couple of ponds close by where they rather stay. This is the first time they have visited my garden, but luckily I was there to capture her just before she flew away.
And lastly, the Ring-necked dove is still sitting on her nest. Every time I get close by, she flies away. I can never really see there are eggs in the nest. Or if they have already hatched. But she is there every day. I hope that her eggs are safe and that they will hatch soon!
And I think this is the Laughing dove. We have so many different species of doves or pigeons, and they all hang out in flocks in the garden. Of all the birds, the doves and pigeons are here the most often and in the most numbers. They always arrive in big numbers, and they always scatter when I go into the garden. But I love the sight of them as they remind me of the coming summer. In the wet winter months, they are rarely here.
