Herons, a few other birds and BONUS driftwood beach art!

The last time I was here I had no zoom lens...

That was making it seriously difficult for me to do any bird photography, but now I'm happy to say I'm back in business!

I can't tell you how bummed out I was when I couldn't zoom in on a flying great blue heron!

P3120009.jpg

The heron colony has moved back into the park and the sky is just full of these lovely birds!

I still don't have a lot of reach with my new lens but a few of the herons got pretty close to me so I didn't have to crop all that much. Go ahead and click on some of these to see them larger.

I'll show you a few other birds I captured with my new lens... above is a male mallard duck showing some nice detail in his feathers.

P3120136.jpg

A peacock resting in the sun. I'm really pleased with the level of detail in this shot.

P3110022.jpg

Here's a head shot of a Canada goose that came charging at me aggressively. I must have been too close to the nesting area.

P3120096.jpg

A nice seagull perched on top of a small waterfall.

Bonus driftwood birds on the beach...

Check out these lovely driftwood creations: Belted Kingfisher

Bald Eagle with chick in the nest.

Woodpecker

Thanks for checking out my latest bird photos... all made with my Olympus E-M1 MkII and my new 40-150 f/2.8 lens.

Thanks very much, Melinda. I only have 1/2 the reach I had before but the lens is so sharp I can crop quite a bit. At some point I may try to add a teleconverter. I just wish all this stuff was not so expensive!
