PHOEBE'S ... BACK IN NEST
(Edited)
Eastern phoebe's (Sayornis phoebe) are nesting in their canoe hideaway for the second time this year... This is their third year at this nest...
These most welcome birds are one of the first to fly north to nest.. Welcome because they are fly catchers that keep my yard free of the nasty biting deer-flies...
Mama sitting in her nest...
The female builds the nest with the male close by. She uses mud, moss, and leaves mixed with grass stems and animal hair... The nest is then reused in upcoming years, unlike most birds that build new ones each year.

Nesting period takes 16 to 20 days, with 2 to 6 eggs laid.

Thanks a lot...😊
They have found the perfect spot to raise their young and are quite lucky that you have no plans for a canoe trip! They are such lovely birds. I remember learning to identify them early on by the tail dip that they do when they are sitting on a wire or a branch. It is quite distinctive. Thanks for sharing these with The Feathered Friends Community. !tip
Thanks... and a fly free Spring for me...😊
