Common buzzard - buteo buteo
Hello feathered friends.
Today I'll talk about the common buzzard (buteo buteo). It is a medium-to-large bird of prey.
After the kestrel, it is the second most common bird of prey in Europe.
The bird is a resident, except in the areas of Russia and northern Europe where it is a migrant. It lives in various habitats, forests, sparsely forested areas, cultivated areas, and most often on the edges of forests, where it also nests.
It is basically brown on top and light on the bottom, often with a lighter belt over tits chest and with a slightly striped tail. The color of the feathers can vary considerably from white to brown.
The common buzzard usually lurks prey from an elevated position (trees, pillars), and when it sees the victim rapidly collapses. It can be seen hovering above a field waiting for prey to appear.
It is interesting that during mating, the male and female perform a flight so that their feet touch the branches. The culmination of courtship is the joint flight of intertwined legs.
I found this bird hovering over the edge of the forest searching for the prey. It usually feeds on small mammals like rodents, other birds, lizards, and insects.
Thanks for stopping by.
Great info and photos of this magnificent soaring bird! Thanks for posting to the #featheredfriends community
Thanks a lot. You are welcome!
👍Also met them this year. They have an interesting voice, when you hear it for the first time, you think it's a cat meowing.
This one was silent and focused. :)
Great post !
