Yard Birds

No, not the '60s rock band. Actual birds in my yard. 😀

It was an overcast day with a thunderstorm minutes away. I heard the Stellar Jays raising a ruckus outside so I grabbed my camera to head outside to see what was up. It wasn't just the Jays that were active a few other birds seem to have things to do prior to the rain beginning.

This guy was quite difficult for me to capture. I was shooting at full zoom 300mm and he didn't stay in one place for very long. Each time I would get focused and ready to shoot he would move. This was about the best shot of him I could get.

This little guy was somewhat more accommodating. He would at least stay in one place a little longer so I could get some decent shots.

A gif I made of him foraging on the ground.

One last view of the Jay standing guard in the tree over his buddy who was feeding on the ground.

These images are not as clear and sharp as I would have liked. It was another learning experience for me with the telephoto lens. I seem to have better luck with it on bright, sun filled days. 😀

Great to see a post from you! Love your Yard Birds! The Jays are so distinctive and I always love seeing upside down nuthatches! I don't often see them on the ground.
Thanks for posting to the #featheredfriends community

Thank you!😀

As annoying as the Jays chatter can be sometimes, they are beautiful birds.

We get a lot of nuthatches (thanks for the name) working their way down the pine trees pecking away. I think he was on the ground checking some bark he had thrown down.
