A detective story in nature!

"Robbie" The Cape Robin Chat arrived at their bath and he took a look at their skew bath.

This is a dual post in #featheredfriends and #amazingnature, as it contains both birds and animals.

To protect the birds against marauding cats, we placed their bath near my study window so that I can keep an eye on them.
The bath is normally in a level position and we keep it full of water, but not today, as someone has tipped the bath.
Let's see who the culprit was!

Robbie, a Cape Robin Chat (Cossypha caffra) jumped into the bath but the water was too low for a bath.
043.JPG

"Hey" Robbie shouted at me, "was this you that broke our bath"?
044.JPG

"I know it was you" Robbie said, but I pleaded my innocence.
046.JPG

Suspiciously Robbie looked around and then left.
047.JPG

Now a possible suspect arrived!

But could it be this small mouse? Did he tip the bath?
025.JPG

No, I don't think he could, as he daintily took a sip of water.
029.JPG

And then he also departed.
030.JPG

So, we went outside, straightened the bath and refilled it with water.
091.JPG

This time "Rita" or Mrs. Robin to you arrived. Robbie must have told her about the broken bath and she looked around ready to fight.
084.JPG

Primly she snatched a quick bath.
085.JPG

And then she gave me a suspicious look instead of thanking me for fixing the bath.
But have a look at Robbie there behind the peanut plant keeping a look out.
071.JPG

The Robins left and the real culprit arrived.
"Squirry"! So here we had the bath destroyer in the act.
073.JPG

They say that we lay our plans carefully and then life happens.
Our plan was to protect the birds with the bath, but as in life, we never included the possibility that other small animals might also find it convenient.

Originally a sculptor designed huge statues and they were placed outside in prominent places, but he never included the fact in his plan that pigeons will poop on the statues and turn them into a mess. So it also is with the high street pole lamp designers, as the birds wreck them and just so it is in nature.
One can never have a perfect plan and yet we still get upset when our plans fail hahaha.

And That's All Folks!

Note: As usual all photos are my own and taken through a window pane with a Canon Powershot SX60HS Bridge camera.

Your story reminds me of a quote from Robert Burns, "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry" from To a Mouse. Enjoy the view and drama from your window, it should bring you a smile as it has done for me. Blessings to you.

Yes indeed, Robert Burns had a great understanding of what I was talking about.
I am full of smiles at this window every day my friend and glad the view also got a smile on your dial.

We have the big bird bath at the other end Lady Melinda, but the cats wait for the small birds in the tree above the bird bath. So now we have three baths of different sizes hahaha.
We will have to appoint a better "manager" to control illegal visitors 😉

Blessings.

Hahaha, in life the unexpected awaits around every corner Lady Joan.
We do indeed take regular walks through in trying to keep things sane, but turn your back and then it is animal carnival time 🤣

Life is strange, animals are not exempt in doing the most unimaginable things right under your nose.
