Wow! Look what a funny hat Marian is wearing today!

We let "Jesse" the "Speckled" (Columba guinea) rescue pigeon fly around inside our house as there is no space in the rescue cage to strengthen her wings. So, when she is hungry, she lands on my wife's head for a free ride.
Come to see what happened!

I heard what sounded like a desperate call for help!

But instead it was a happy call, as Jesse had a new trick!

So I told Marian to move slowly backwards and then to turn and slowly take Jesse to the cage!

Right, there is the cage on our dining table!

Slowly Marian went down onto her knees!

Jesse took off to land on the top edge of a chair!

Then she popped onto the table to have some food!

We feed her a special mix of wild bird seeds mixed with calcium to build her fragile bones and she is making a drastic improvement. So much so, that on Sunday I will set her free.
Yes, it can be fun to rescue wild animals and it can be equally sad to lose many. But the rewards are so worth it!

Great Zac, but I don't think she will fly far away because it seems she is feeling quite at home where she is now 😊

I believe the squirrels will get jealous though when they see the pigeon on Marian's head 😉

We are weighing up the options to let her stay here Hannes,
She slept for the whole night on the curtain rail and jumped down this morning again on Marian's head to take her to the food.
So I will not put her back in the cage today.
Let's see how it goes!

Ps. Squirry might be a problem, but we will have to wait and see 🤣

Yeah, I can imagine that a hat with 3 cages on it can create quite a storm of trendings.
Dog in the middle, a step to the left, a pigeon and a step to the right, a squirrel.
I think that there was a song with some of these words 🤣

Well, the lady laborers on the farms carry 25 liter drums, filled with water on their heads when they walk on a foot path between the trees. They do this so that snakes in the overhanging tree branches will not strike their heads.

So If I make Marian's 3 part hat (cage) I should aim at a max weight of about 6 to 7 kilogram.
Troy weighs 4.5 kg, the bird is a couple of ounces and Squirry is also below 1 kg.
The hat (cage) will be plastic rods attached to a plastic frame that will be below 2 kg, so I think that it is totally doable my friend.

And oh, I will install plastic screens between the animals, else a big fight can take place on Marian's head 🤣

Great to see the Jesse the pigeon is doing so well - the photos of him on Marion's head bought a smile to my face - he is so trusting and Marion so gentle!

Thank you and we have already tried to set her free, but her wings are not yet strong enough.
So, this week we will try again and if she still can't make it, then she will stay and become another family member.
Here she is having a bath!
