Malachite Sunbird and others.

A very sharp sun this morning.
079.jpg
This is a Malachite Sunbird that sat up high among the winter branches.

Our second clear and sunny day today and just as in life, the storms have left us. So now the sun will shine until Tuesday when they reckon it will rain again.
In the meantime I will have some fun with my camera and hope that you will join us on our journeys.
Come and walk with me.

Yes, like I said, the sun was very sharp and shooting was difficult, but this guy didn't hang around.
082.jpg

Off he went and I knew that if I wanted more malachites then I would have to go and search for them.
081.jpg

We have plenty of the little Cape White-eyes around here. Lovely little birds.
092.jpg

The wife of a Southern Double-collared Sunbird was searching for some nectar, or an insect in this Protea flower.
113.jpg

Look at the new Pincushion Protea heads stating to bloom. Soon there will be a tribe of nectar birds on this bush.
114.jpg

Finally I found another Malachite on this Strelitzia flower.
187.jpg

Just a short walk of maybe 1 kilometer, but it was a profitable walk for my shots. Yes, it is only the normal fare, but Spring season is around the corner and then all of the foreign birds will leave the snow countries to return here for the summer.
I have found a good spot to get the Flamingos and will get some shots and maybe a video of them as soon as they arrive.
The great news is that I also got some Jackal Buzzard predator birds on our way back and I will do another post on them.

And That's All Friends!

Thank you kindly Hannes and that's why they call the Malachite the King of all the sunbirds.
We have 21 species of sunbirds in South Africa and 7 species reside here in the Western Cape.
I am still missing 3 species two Collared types and one called the Grey sunbird. Hopefully I will get them in time as they live far away on the east coast.

Cheers and thanks.

You're most welcome Zac 😊

You know more different kinds of one bird than I know birds all in all 🤣
I am sure you will get the last three types too - if you can't get to them they will find you 😁

The east coast is towards the Transkei area which is an inland homeland area Hannes and I doubt that I will get a chance to go there. But I am happy as I have all of the species here, so no more surprises.

Once the bird bug bites one cannot do otherwise but to study them.

Cheers and thanks.

And maybe with the ongoing climate change the missing birds will move closer 😀

Seriously Hannes, we saw some birds here last summer that came down all the way from the north pole and also two seals.
The southern right whales arrived out of time and the sardines also arrived later than usual.
So yes, maybe the Transkei birds will also start to appear here,

Cheers and thanks.

I doubt that my friend, as few degrees hotter here and the animals will become extinct.

Cheers and thanks.

I hope that Mother Nature knows what she's doing and that the animals will adapt to the temperatures just as we do.

I think mother nature is angry my friend, as we have faced some serious storms here.
Yes, the animals will adapt, those that can, but we will lose many of the smaller ones.
All that we can do is pray that the world will really understand the dangers.

Cheers and thanks.

Yes, she is angry and I would also be angry if I was her. She's been waiting for so long that the world understands. I hope she will wait a little longer.

We all pray that the coal fired air pollution will end my friend.
Maybe one day soon someone will invent a revolutionary new nature friendly power generation concept. Something that every house and business can use.
My dream 😉

Cheers and thanks.

I think many more or less nature friendly power solutions have already been invented, but the oil and coal and other companies are still too strong ... just my opinion ...

!BEER and !PIZZA - nice 😃

The problem is that there are billions invested in oil worldwide and many jobs will be gone if coal is to be abolished. So yes, I cannot see a replacement taking place any time in the future.

Many people here use Solar and others use Inverter batteries to keep the power on during power-cuts, so yes some changes are taking place and we are even getting our first cheaper electrical car soon.
So soon it will no longer be 20 liters of gas per kilometer, but rather 9 Kilowatt Pkm. Just an example.

Cheers and thanks.

I think it will take a lot of time and will to move or transform jobs and businesses to nature friendly ones. We have known what we are doing to our earth for a long, long time, and yet we don't want to believe it.

A very long of time my friend and the goverments didn't listen to the warnings, not that they didn't want to, but they had to keep their economies going. In the meantime these lockdowns are creating thousands to become un-employed. It has shattered the smaller busniesses here and we have closed restaurants all over the place. Some bigger businesses were also forced to close down due to a lack of trade. Customer is King and no customers mean no income.

The good thing about the lockdowns is that pollution dropped.

Cheers and thanks.

You're very right, Zac, and I would have thought that the people, governments and companies would have learned from the lockdowns, from the silence in the nights, from the recovering of nature ... they haven't, money rules the world.

I read an article today that will also frighten you, as the ice at the North Pole is melting at high rates.
They say that when the huge ice faces drop and hit the water, that it releases hot gasses that goes right up into the atmosphere, creating the bad weather like cyclones and such.
We are in trouble my friend.

Cheers and thanks.

I have heard that too, Zac, but I'm not sure what to believe in these sayings. The weather has changed in the past months and years and the seasons are very different from how they were when I was a kid. So I only say we should wait and see and hope for the best.

They are indeed gorgeous birds.
