Some Weekend Beauties here!

Aaaaah! Weekend at last and a time to relax after a tough week!

Some beautiful pictures here that will put you into a weekend mood!

Something here in this series of photos that anybody would like, as my idea was to also add some color to the post.
Many of us had a good week and others had a bad one, so let's put it behind us and rather concentrate on having a great weekend.

221.JPG

The beautiful colors of the Acraea lighted our morning up here!

249.JPG

Even this little sunbird was singing a weekend tune!

120.JPG

A bit of a balancing act here by the Hadeda Ibis, but he was determined to listen to the songbird's songs!

128.JPG

Yeah, that's better, so he can listen while a Rock pigeon rushed by to fetch his wife to come and listen to the songbird 😁

246.JPG

I wanted to give this double Hibiscus to the songbird as gift for his singing 🤣

214.JPG

The Hadedas were on their way to their weekend holiday home at the ocean!

126.JPG

Now this is a "Sacred Ibis" that came flying over and not a Hadeda Ibis. They don't mix with the Hadedas, as they don't belong to the same church 🤣

242.JPG

Finally, here is a succulent flowering bush to hopefully lift everyone's spirits!

Photography was difficult today, as banks of cirrus clouds has rolled in overnight blocking the sun and at times in the day we had almost twilight, as you can see in the second last photo.

So now I know that some might ask what the clouds looked like and this was our sky today!

073.JPG

We will have rain again soon and all the better for the spring color explosion that we are seeing in all of the valleys here.
I will continue to bring you photos about the spring build up towards summer.

And That's All Friends!

I leave you with this;

Thank you and here is the end of today's cloud saga.
Tomorrow will also have different shapes of clouds and I plan to go down to the beach to get the sunset in the clouds with the ocean as a mirror.

There's something about birds in flight that makes me marvel at their magnificence. Those ibis in flight are top rate photos. Actually first time I have seen this kind of bird (you guessed right - I wasn't a bird enthusiast before I joined this community). The succulent bush is also something I don't see too much. Most often the succulent plants I see are all in small pots or containers and are mostly leaves. This one actually has stems and branches. Great post.

I grew up as a kid on a farm and at the age of 12 or 13 we moved to one of the big cities.
At the age of 45 I finally decided that I had enough of city life and started planning to move back to a rural life.
In the meantime we had started a charity named The Papillon Foundation in 2002 and so when we moved down here 2 years ago we also relocated our charity here.

So that explains that I have a fairly good knowledge about nature and we are blessed with an abundance of nature here.
Glad to have introduced you to the Ibis's and yes, the succulents grow very well down here in the Western Cape Province.

Thank you for the visit and have a good weekend my friend!

Thank you and good morning Hannes.

It seems that you have slept very fast, as it is still night here hahaha
Glad that you liked the photos and oh yeah, we hope that you will also have a beautiful weekend.

Thank you and soon we will have hundreds of spring Acraea butterflies all over here.

Right, I knew that you put a last effort in there, so decided to give you a smile.

Difficult to get those guys en masse, as they don't fly together.
I dream of the day that they will come over in a cloud!

I think that I got some great clouds early this morning, but haven't downloaded the camera yet. We also have an idea about what that new raptor bird is that I got yesterday. They say that it's a cross between a Forest Buzzard and a Steppe Buzzard and that they only breed here in the Western Cape.

Will post him later today.

Cheers and thanks.

Nah, these little ones are clever, as even with their warning colors, the birds catch them. So they fly separately and that's why I said that they fly all over the place.

You know by now that I forgot to post the Buzzard, but I will post him tomorrow.
We get regular sightings of Jackal Buzzards and I have posted some a few times,
Hang on and I will find one to show you!

This is a Jackal Buzzard!

Amazing how the intelligence in nature works Hannes.
We can certainly learn so much from nature.

Totally agreed and maybe we can learn to stop thrashing nature with all of our plastics and also to stop the destruction of forests Hannes.

A look at the endangered birds list will show you that mankind is responsible for most of their extinctions.
They can also teach us much on how to lead our lives my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Of course "we" can learn, but I don't think the important people can learn, because they don't want to learn but make money or they don't care.

You are so right and the the fact that it's all profit camouflaged with the word "progress" to try and fool us Hannes.

"Oh look, we are clearing this part of the forest to give the locals a better life, as they can then farm in this area"

Who sells the wood from the trees that are cut down, and who sells the produce that the people cultivate on the farms?

A funny world that we live in because no one asks what happens to the animals that live in that part of the forest and if the animals invade the new crops they are killed.
Such is life!

Cheers and thanks!

Rather too strict laws than willful destruction Hannes.

The old adage "Money talks" come to mind here and you are so right about the power issue Hannes.
But there are also other issues such as population growth outstripping available space with the result that forests are cleared for human habitation.
The problem with this is services, as mediocre services result in littering and that ugly word "plastic" all over the place.

I get so angry when I see a beautiful bird sitting on a branch with a plastic bag next to it that the wind blew into the tree.

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

that's true, more people need more space and they want to live near the city where they work, so the forest is in their way.
I don't think that we will ever get rid of unnecessary plastic like bags, but I do hope they find a solution with these bacteria which should break down plastic.

Hope you have a good day 😊

Good morning Hannes,

Yeah, the forests are in trouble in this world methinks.
The sad thing is to take a walk past the river outlets into the sea and to see all of the rubbish that they feed into the ocean.
At our old head office we had a private parking lot. A late model BMW or some other make would pull in there, the people inside the car would eat the take aways that they bought and when finished would open the doors and put the empty cartons and bottles down in the street next to the car. Without getting out of the car.
They would then pull off leaving two lines of litter where the car was parked.

Others do private mechanical work on cars and at times they have to drain the motors old oil.
What do you think that they do with the old oil?
Simple, they throw it into the stormwater drains.

We are in trouble mate, as we continue to poison this planet.

Cheers and thanks!

Good day Zac,

believe me, such happens here all the time, or people go hiking and wherever they take a rest they leave their litter. They carry the heavy food and drinks into the woods, but the lightweight packaging is too heavy to carry home.

Mother Nature is showing us how easily she could get rid of us and we don't see, and we don't care.

Sickening Hannes, really sickening to see people litter like that.
I keep all of my cigarette butts in my pocket when we go out and we leave only our footsteps behind.
And I am sure that you do the same.

We are like the blind leading the deaf, seeing and hearing nothing and it's becoming a serious life or death issue.

Good morning Zac,

Good morning Hannes,

I hope that your day started well and we are blessed with sunshine this morning.

I read an article about the San Francisco fires that was written by a guy from Australia who had the same kind of bush fires in Aus. Interesting that some very old trees survived the fires and yet other trees simply exploded in the heat.

So, you are right as I am also sure that mother nature is not happy with us and the sad thing is that we deserve it for chasing after the false money god.

Cheers and Thanks!

Good morning Zac,

I have to make quick replies, because I have a meeting in a few minutes and later my daughter needs me to go shopping - she needs a laptop for school and I hope we will find something affordable that will do the work she has to do.

We have the same weather as yesterday - it's great, sunny and warm.

Trees are an interesting species. When you cut a tree here to build a house you have to cut it at special times or when there's the right moon, because then the wood wouldn't burn, and this really works.

Good afternoon Hannes,

If you were hare I could have organized you a good laptop at an unbeatable price.
Do you guys have PC refurbishers over there?
I am sure that there has to be somebody that restores PC's and laptops and normally they also upgrade them.
They sell them complete at half the price of a new one.

Ours is clouding now again with rain tonight, but I managed to come back via a stopover at the beach lol.

An amazing piece of advice that I did not know. I wonder if it will also work over here and I believe you, but I want to go and ask aunty Google.
I know that the old people had many tricks with wood, as they built their entire ox wagons out of wood.
Very interesting and thank you!

Cheers and Thanks!

Good evening Zac,

I have just come home and want to help my daughter with her new laptop later before I go to bed. Yes, we have refurbish companies, and I have bought refurbished computers before, but I have decided to get her a new one, because she will need it for the next few years if she decides to go to the University.

If the rest of the Autumn stays like it is at the moment we will hope for rain, because today was another hot day ☀️

Yeah, the old people knew many things that most of us don't know.

Yeah in that case you are right, as she does need a computer and let's hope and pray that she will decide to go to a university.
I don't know if you guys have a university, as you don't even have a prison, so maybe she will have to go to another country to study hahaha.
I laugh because I am joking so don't get your blood pressure up as it's not healthy lol.

Okay, but you told me about those false summers that you guys get in Autumn, so hopefully it will rain in due course.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, we have a prison, and yes, we have a university, but I think she will study in another Austrian state - in Lower Austria. It's still a year until she finishes school and decide what she wants to do though.
So, you are right and believe me, my blood pressure is about normal again, because I have known that for a while now 😉

Rain will come, I'm sure, but at the moment the weather is very enjoyable 😁

Okay I know that now hahaha!
A year is a long time and enough time for her to a rational decision and I think that by now she will know that she is not pushed into anything, but that it is all for herself.
My step-daughter took what they call a gap year after school before she entered university.

Did I ever tell you that I have "normal" high blood pressure Hannes?
I take two little tablets every day to lower it a bit, but they cannot get it close to normal, as they say that it's hereditary. Only two of the ten tablets every day hahaha.

Well that's good and glad that you are enjoying the warm spell!

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

that's an idea we had too, she deserves a year time out after 13 years at school, but that's also her decision. I think she should do it, because in that year she has time to think what she wants.

Yes, you told me that about your blood pressure - it's not good to take so many tablets, but what could you do if there's no other way to stay healthy?

Hope you have a great day Zac 😊

Good morning Hannes.

A gap yar might do her a lot of good, as me daughter told me that the work that she did as a waitress during her gap year, opened her eyes to the business world. Amazingly she then went on to study for 7 years, qualified and went to work in London UK, for 7 years before she returned.

A surprise this morning as we went to have my sugar count and cholesterol counts tested and I suggested that Marian should also have hers done.
Mine turned out normal, but Marian's was very high and we didn't expect that.

She has been having trouble with the vision in her left eye and recently got new spectacles to improve her vision, as it was found that she only has 30% vision in the eye.
Now we think that it is the high counts that she had this morning that is disturbing her sight.

So, we are seeing an eye specialist doctor now at 3 o'clock for an investigation.

Besides this, we are having a quiet day thus far my friend and hope that your day is good!

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac 😊

We have not thought yet what she could do in that year, but working would certainly be a great idea which I would appreciate 😀

I have heard that high sugar values have effects on your eyes, but I don't know more. You'll see what the doctor says. Hopefully it's nothing bad.

It's warm here but a bit overcast. Maybe it will rain later.

Good evening Hannes.

Yes, it would indeed give her some valuable experience about the world out there.
Preferably a low end job so that it will inspire her to study, as if she gets a good paying job, it might make get want to hang onto the job. Then we will have to find her a rich husband hahaha.

Good news, her eye suffers natural degeneration and there are no hidden causes. BUT, the doctor asked when I was coming so that he could take out the cataracts in my other eye.
So, we made an appointment for next week so that he can do the preliminary preparations.

Three operations now on my shopping list Hannes.

  1. Right eye 2. Spine fusion 2. Left knee replacement.
    Sounds like happy days.

Hope that it will stay warm there for a longer time than usual my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

She has already worked before in the holidays from school, but that was only for a month. My preferred future for her would be studying and then a rich husband 😉

OK, then she "only" needs glasses and you'll soon be almost fully repaired ... refurbished 😁

I think it will stay fine - it didn't rain and for the next days they predict sunshine ☀️

Ah, so she has had a little bit of a taste of the world outside the school which is great Hannes.
I think what you described for your daughter is the dream of every father my father.
Sad that so many miss the rugby poles to score hahaha.

Yeah, he said her brain will start to adopt the glasses which is another amazing thing about human design lol.
My refurbishment will take a bit longer and sadly they will only upgrade the externals and not the harddrive or the motherboard lol. They can also not fit extra RAM memory cards hahaha.

Good that you may have some more biking days before the cold starts.
When is your rainy season?

Summer or winter, as here we have winter rainy seasons and up north where we come from it's summer rainy seasons in the same country lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

some wishes of a father will not come true, but we hope that her life will be happy :)

Yeah, it didn't take a long time for my eyes to get used of the glasses. Now I couldn't live without them ;)
I think the motherboard is still fine, but maybe the harddrive could be upgraded to a large SSD and a few gigabyte more RAM wouldn't be bad either, at least for me ;) lol

We don't have a rainy season, but from about October to April snow can fall 😉

Good morning Hannes,

That is indeed all that we as fathers can hope for, but if the foundation was laid well, then a good life being built on it is often the norm.
We will track her progress with the new glasses my friend. Just glad that there's nothing serious.

Well you are lucky as they have discontinued my harddrive years ago, so the old motherboard cannot be adapted to use SSD stuff and they don't make the tons sized RAM needed to boost my memory banks.
So, this old human PC must just run as is until some critical part packs up, then it is off to PC heaven hahaha.

Strange that you guys don't have a rainy season?
Does it the rain all year round? I cannot imagine how the farmers could plan their planting with no rainy seasons?

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac,

oh yes, hoping is all I can do, and hope the foundation is laid well enough 😉

Right, anything can happen to me, but nothing serious with the eyes, apart from having to wear glasses.

The old hardware usually works fine for ages as long as you don't try to install new software, so the PC heaven will have to wait 😉

In the valleys it even rains in winter.
Our farmers are used of the weather and work certainly different, but I am no farmer 😉 But almost every year bad weather destroys crops or fruits or too good weather dries fields and nothing grows or burns.

Good evening Hannes.

If I know one thing then it is this! You guys love your children and you have raised them with love an care.
No foundation is more solid than this and mark my words, a couple of years more and you will start to see the fruits of you labors.

So, I presume that you wear the glasses permanently?
Marian only wears hers when she works and maybe I must tell or ask her to wear hers also all of the time, as it might help her eyes?

Hahaha, enough said Hannes, else I will really start to feel old lol.

Yeah, then the valleys have winter season rainfall.
Believe me that your farmers are very experienced if they have been farming for a long time and they know how to plan for the seasons.
Unfortunately the weird weather of late has also damaged many crops also here.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

I hope you are right, but I know my daughter and so I believe anyway that you are right 😀

Hi Hannes,

We can only hope my friend, but we should always keep our thoughts positive and realize that it is no longer in our hands what the outcome might be.

Oh, okay, then she is doing the right thing.

Hail, is the frightening thing here as if the fruits have marks on them it cannot be exported.
We used to love the fresh taste of an apple that we plucked from at tree at harvest time and Marian used to make us apple pie with fresh cream on the apple farm.
It is a multi million intensive farming business and the farmers watch the weather like hawks lol.

I used to love to sit down with a friend that owns one of the biggest apple farms. He is a 5th generation farmer meaning that grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather etcetera owned and farmed the same farm. So this guy went to the agricultural university and after that he returned to the farm for the rest of his life.
His stories comparing an apple tree with life will keep you spell bound for hours lol.

Cheers and thanks!

A great and sunny good morning from here to you Hannes!

No rain here during the day, so I think we will pop down to the ocean at some time today.

Google is indeed faster, but it misses that personal touch that the old people have lol.
It all depends on which advices you are talking about, as Google is pretty general.
For instance, we always go to our bird books to identify a new bird, but they are limited, as often new arrivals here are not in the books, but we can find them on Google.

Now the old people don't know this, as they are life experts and most of the ones that we know do not use internet at all. Just walking libraries of life knowledge they are lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

I have just come home from a ride. It's a bit cloudy and not very warm, but okay.

There's a thick encyclopedia in my parents house which consists of many books and which I loved when I was young. They have often been used. I have also a few books of an encyclopedia from the 1930s at home. This old one makes sometimes fun, because there are many things in it which I know are not true anymore 😉

I don't need advice in regards to landscaping or farming, and what I need to know about living in town I find in the internet, but as said before, I enjoy listening to the stories of these "walking libraries" as you say 😊

Animals, birds and Insects are all easier to identify by using Google or Wikipedia or other websites. In a book there are only a few photos of an animal, in the internet there are many. So I don't even try to use the "Austrian Birds" book we have 😉

Hope you get some nice photos at the ocean 😊

Yes indeed Hannes, things are changing so rapidly that a book gets old the moment that it's published. We also have racks full of books including a range of old classics and many others, but they are for a read in the late afternoon dun in the big and soft leather chair that my one daughter gave me.

Fortunately two of our SA Bird books are recent and while I type, Marian looks in the books and gives me the Latin names. So we are a double human google team lol.

Cheers and thanks!

I used to read a lot, sometimes even till the morning, but when I was about 45 or so I began to fall asleep after reading a few pages and over the years it got worse 😉

Cheers and !BEER and good night Zac 😊

Well I was also never in my life told a bedtime story Hannes.
And like you even today still, if I pick up a book, I don't put it down until it is finished.
But not anymore, although I don't fall asleep, nowadays I would read a few chapters and then find something else to do.
But note that whenever I have sermons to do, then I spend much time in the preparations.

Good night Hannes and may the new week be good to you guys!

Blessings and thank you for the great chats and tokens my friend!

Oh yes, I wished I still could read more than a few pages, but the most irritating thing is, that I still seem read while I am already almost asleep and the next day I have to read it again because I have no idea that I have read that far, but I remember the words when I read 😉

Hahaha, how funny is this lol.
So you remember the words that you have read when you are in a slumber when you read them again lol.
Maybe you slip a page marker in during you slumbering state and then the at the next read just continue reading from the marker, as the previous words will be in a file in your sub-conscience lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Now I don't know about you, but remembering is not one of my strong suits Hannes.
My eldest sister was telling Marian about some of the most daring and crazy things that I did as a youngster and when Marian asked me about it I could not remember one of them lol.

According to my memories, I was one of the sweetest children that ever walked this earth, apart from the Lord of course lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Well, I also don't remember all the bad things I have done according to what my siblings tell, but I also don't remember any good things either - my siblings neither 😉 lol
I can imagine that sweet little kid you might have been - I believe with shoe size 11 you could easily on water too 🤣

Yeah, I also think that you were a good little boy, even if your mom will not agree lol.
Maybe they called you angel lol.
I should never have told you about my shoes, or my sizes, as now that I call you nursey, you will call me feets/foots or something similar!

I think better that we stick to the Austrian mountain goat hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Hahaha, yes indeed and I have noticed that.
Good that my replies keeps your brain energized by you having to conjure up constant humorous thoughts.
It also helps to inspire positive habits. I read this somewhere but have forgotten where lol.
They said that humor and positivity are mates.

So your mountain goat ways also inspires my positivity.

Great when one thinks about it as we think that we are only joking lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Life is serious enough and even more serious is my work, so I enjoy talking stupid in between very much.
And you are right, Zac, it makes me thinking positive too 😄

Stupid is positive Hannes and intelligence means work hahaha.
Now I am in doubt whether it is stupidity or intelligence that makes you hope to win the lottery?
A little bit of both perhaps?

They say that all of the lottery winners are broke after a few years and I doubt that you would like it very much to be bankrupt.
Now that's why mother nature sigh's and says; Oh, it's that Austrian mountain goat again" every time that you go to buy a lottery ticket hahaha.
Mind you, they say that if you don't have a ticket, you can't go on the lottery bus lol.

Positive thinking to sort your answer to this out lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Haha, it's stupidity, of course, but I would love Mother Nature to say "hey there's this poor mountain goat, I will draw it's numbers tonight" 😁

Yes, you would indeed love Mother nature to say that but what is she says "look, I am now tired of that mountain goat throwing his money away, let's draw his nails so that he can't climb the mountain to come here anymore" lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Oh, that's what she has been saying during the past 30 years - maybe she's getting tired of these words and says the ones I want to hear ... once would be enough 😉

Well, maybe she is waiting for something special from you?
You mountain goats are known as stubborn critters, so maybe you should go out on a hilltop and declare your undying love to her. Maybe announce your intention with a blow on a mountain goat horn.

Just beware that nobody sees you as you are well what will happen when they catch you.
Both unspeakable things hahaha

Cheers and thanks!

Hahaha, that was my fear, as you might go and blow that horn before sunrise to make sure that no one can see you. but in the dark you missed the cabin behind a tree.
So that horn awakened an old man in that cabin, he thinks it's a mountain goat and he takes aim with his double barreled shotgun.
Fortunate it was only pellets that hit you in the bum and two young unspeakable persons have to remove the pellets with tweezers lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Oh I would love to have your imagination, Zac 😉
I can't imagine to miss a cabin behind a tree, but I can imagine the last part of the story, and it doesn't hurt, not a bit 🤣

Hahaha, in the dark anything is possible Hannes and missing a cabin behind a tree is better than tramping on a sleeping lion's tail 😮

Of course it wouldn't hurt as you would love to show the unspeakable persons how brave you are, even when they are picking pellets out of you naked bum 😁

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Hannes,

Hahaha, oh yes, I forget and I think that all of the wild animals flee from Austria as it is the territory of the Austrian mountain goat lol.

Now, now my friend, I am an innocent man, but I think that I have a vague idea of what you are talking about.
We have had no sex education here when I was young and for a long time I thought that I could become pregnant hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

I don't know why we have an eagle in our flag, it should be a Mountain Goat 🤣

Ok, you understand and I only hope that Cinderella knows how to play chess. I don't play very good, but sometimes I like to play a game or two 😉

Hahaha, simple, just put in an application for the eagle to be replaced with a photo of you Hannes 🤣

So know you want to play chess with Cinderella??? The jumping parts I presume?
But this will not work, as she will simple get her uncle, the grandmaster player of chess to play against you.
The bad news is that he will have his axe with him and he has chopped all of the losers heads off.

Btw. he has never lost a game and maybe, just maybe the wily Austrian mountain goat can beat him. If not, then he will add the goat head to the collection of the other 1000 trophy heads above his large fireplace 😭

Cheers and thanks!

Haha 😂

If course I want to play chess, what did you think? Did you have nasty thoughts?😉

If he has the axe with him I will suggest that if I win I can have it, and if he wins he can have my horns. He will then play in fear to lose the axe what will actually make him lose and me win 😁 So I win an axe, my life and maybe also the princess ... happy end of the fairy tale 🤗

Me? Nasty thoughts??? 😇😇😇

You might just sit the pot miss this time my friend.

That guy only has one thing on his mind and it burns like a bushfire, winning at all costs. An ugly mental attitude that even dragons fear. Now and then he starts to drool in his eagerness to win and puss runs out of and old wound in his left eye where a dying competitor without a head scratched him. The old man's breath smells like Sulphur and he wheezes like a hungry crocodile.

I think that only thing that you will win in this competition is the 100 meter running sprint to your motorbike🤣

Cheers and thanks!

I tend to believe you, because you are a man of honor I believe 😉

Have you ever smelled an old Mountain Goat? Well, if you do you also know that Sulphur is nothing more than a bad smell against the goat's smell 😁

Did you know that dragons originally came from Europe and the mountains? Now, my friend, tell me who is still climbing these mountains? The old man might stink like hell and he might want to win and spread fear with his axe, but he has never met an old Mountain goat and maybe he runs as soon as he smells the odor 🤣

Now that's an angle that I did not consider and you are right, even the ordinary goats here don't smell too good.

So if the old man sees and smell you he would be rattled for sure. Especially if you have a dragons tooth necklace hanging around your neck lol.
Maybe he will put his axe down, embrace you and then wash you, as Cinderella will not like his new stinking son-in-law lol.
You and Cinderella will have a big wedding in her pumpkin castle and soon there will be many little mountain goats with axes running around lol.

Sounds like a happy ending to me at least lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Although the pictures are great, I can't stop thinking about those words you said, that even though we didn't have a good week, we focused on having a good weekend. Great thinking and better attitude!

The pictures are excellent. I liked the one with the clouds and the one with the flower. And I had a good laugh about they don't mix with the Hadedas, as they don't belong to the same church . ja, ja, ja.

A hug and let's have one of the best weekend of our lives.
