The Peregrine Falcon

1225.JPG

The fastest bird in the world, caught on camera right here in our neighboring garden.

Something special here for you. A video of a Peregrine in action, at the end of this post!

Yesterday afternoon after our long day at the ocean with the seals hunting sardines, we arrived home and as I opened the car door I heard the famous Peregrine cry.
So I had my camera and off I went immediately to search for the bird.

Oh yes, in my hurry the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) saw me, but I ever so slowly slid in behind a tree trunk and he was at rest.
1241.JPG

Doing his tail thing, he still peeped to see where I was, but 40 meters away, I was no danger to him.
1259.JPG

Cleverly he sat behind that thick tree branch to blend himself in with the tree and I would not have seen him, but he moved his head.
1274.JPG

There! There's that chilling cry that sends every bird into a panic. Strangely even the crows stayed away.
1279.JPG

Oh no, fluffing means that he was about to disappear and so it was as he dived down behind the tree and I waited for about an hour, but he was gone.
1292.JPG

How does a dive of more than 300 KPH sound to you?

Oh yes, this one magnificent bird and I was so glad to get him again. Yes, I have posted the Peregrine before here on hive, with his pray in the claws, but nature decided to show him to me once again.

Their eyesight is much better than ours. At my old job I had some peregrines nesting just above my window 18 floors up. I could hear a chick and would see them swoop down. They are protected. Seems they can be found all over the place. Amazing creatures.

I managed to find some pictures that I shot from the ground with my bridge camera on max zoom. My office was the room at the bottom.

Oh man! What a wonderful occasion Sir Steve and I am glad that I could bring that memory back to you.
They are indeed my some of my favorite birds and yes, they can see from miles up in the sky.
Pergrines can be found in every country in the world except the Arctic.

That video was indeed a great find on YouTube today.

Blessings and you have a great picture here.

One day, I hope that you will come here and we will find that bird my friend.
He is indeed a magnificent specimen to flaunt bird power.

Btw. About the fire today, have a look at this.
https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/national/apocalyptic-fire-reaps-day-of-unforgiving-destruction-in-mother-city/ar-BB1fMLcb?ocid=msedgdhp

On the news this morning, a resident caught one of the guys that started the fires and it is alleged that there were 3 of them running around and starting fires.

Cheers and thanks.

One day my friend ... 😊

So they are doing it on purpose? What kind of people are they? What are they thinking?
They should be locked in and never released.

!BEER and !PIZZA - perfect 😃

Only one of two things in my mind my friend.
One would be that they have nothing and hate those that have.
Two would be political and I don't even want to go into that as the land issue has festered for many years in this country.
There were also recent threats to make the Cape ungovernable, so let's wait and see what happens.
People don't know that prayer is the answer.

Cheers and thanks.

Both reasons are stupid and dangerous for so many people, but I hope it's no political reason.

So do I Hannes.
Under currents are running deep in this country and now the judiciary is under attack by the wrongdoers.
Let's hope sanity prevails.

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yes thank you. In that video you can see why I have never been able to get a shot of him in the dive.
He travlels at lightning speed.

Cheers and !BEER
