Tiny things you see in an urban park

Finally managed to get some decent fresh photos for another #featheredfriends post! And in the middle of an urban area!

Parks in urban areas normally have a fairly decent number of species. Most of then are not seen easily, but some are easy to spot: size, feeding behaviors, getting used to human presence, are some of the reasons why birdwatching in a park can actually be quite rewarding!

In this particular park, the number of species that couldn't care less if there were humans around was in majority! And among them, peacocks were gaining in numbers. Funny thing, it's usual to see peacocks in urban parks nowadays. What I DON'T often see is... peachicks!!

And they were all over! If I saw one without the parents around, I might have a doubt about the species, but the tiny crest on top of the head makes them easy to identify! Peachicks are nidifugous, which means they leave the nest shortly after hatching (like ducks). The incubation period of the indian peafowl is around 28 days, so I would guess that these guys would have around 2-3 months old.

Peacocks usually feed in groups; here, I only saw one male! Most of the groups here were composed of females and the little ones.

It was amazing how close they would approach the persons in the park. Even accostumed to human presence, I would assume they would keep a little bit more distance. Yet, the peachicks and the females passed near 1 meter where I was standing, and although the mother had an alert look, she didn't seem that frightened with my presence.

I spent around one hour taking photos and enjoying how cute these guys are! This was one of the tiniest ones I've seen:

A few more species were roaming around, but none as present as the peafowl. Which species were? Well... that will stay for another post! 😉

Have fun, stay safe and keep those #featheredfriends posts coming!

I like these feathers on their heads, they are so funny, they look like some kind of plant like hogweed or dill.😀
